I have a 2001 Ram 1500 Sport and when I im driving it squeeks more so when you go over bumps as well, as soon as you put it in neutral still rollling though over any bump it wont squeek.. Any suggestions? u-joints, tranny mount, motor mount? I just replaced the shocks and jumping on the vehicle it wont make any noise. I cant find the problem

thats strange, if it were a ujoint it should do it all the time while rolling, tranny/motor mounts ive never known to squeek, maybe a control arm bushing or somethign of that sorts, just a coincidence that it doesnt do it while in nutrel???, i had a weird sqeek that would happen on any little bump turned otu to be a loose bumper

I'd look in the U-joint direction. Often at the beginning of failure, u-joints will only squeak when under moderate load, so popping into neutral or laying on the throttle will not show the problem. There are other things that could do this, but u-joints are high on my suspect list.

its def possible its just a coincidence for the neutral part... seems to be coming from the front driver side.. almost sounds like a metal on metal squeak. like the front coil spring. just put in new tranny mount, sway bar links and bushings and shocks..checked the rear drive shaft u joints and they both feel good, not sure about the front shaft, previous owner put new front axle u joints just before i bought it about a month ago. greased all joints today other then u joints as they are non greasable.. will have to let that work in.. tie rod ends have minimal play but those usually just clunk not squeak..? im at a loss. any suggestions would help

I'm still leaning toward the U-joints. If they are at the 'squeak' stage, the only way to check them is to remove the drive shaft and check if they are tight. A good U-joint moves freely, a bad U-joint is stiff...approaching seized, and totaled U-joint has noticeable play.

Also, a motor mount can squeak (usually the drivers side one), and will only do so then there is a changing load on the engine. Although rare.....it's possible.

Difficult to say without being there to hear/witness in person.....but my initial thoughts are still U-joint.

I'm with you in that! The part that pushes me away form that, is where the OP indicated it stops squeaking in neutral. Any I've had with shock squeak are not particular to the gear the trans is in, and like you said, while parked you can bounce on it to make it squeak...

def sqeaks only in neutral just made sure today, any bump or ripple in the road while in neutral and it wont squeak.. I pulled the main drive shaft and moved the u joints and they felt good, no notches or anything while moving it. I did spray things down 1 time with silicone spray and im pretty sure it stopped untill it rained only i lubed everything and dont know which one actually fixed it.. Im agreeing on engine mount for sure, will take a look at that. Next will be u joint replace anyways and see what happens

ok so if I put the e-brake on and put it in drive and bounce the truck from the driver side running board it makes the squeak. It sounds like its coming from the driver side. Thinking motor mount?

so you cant make it squeek when you jump on the same running board when its off and in park? (front shock)so if its not that, when vehicle is in gear with park brake on there is a load on both engine and tranny so yeah checking both those mounts is a good idea. 1 way is to have buddy get in and hold brakes and give a little gas not to spin tires but put load on and off drive train u will see if there is any play in all mounts.
