Default Dodge ram wiring problems PLEASE HELP!

Hey guys, new to the forum. Just had a quick question. I put a new head unit in my truck the other day. I bought a quick connect harness for the truck and spliced and taped all wires coming from head unit harness. When I went to turn the unit on, the head unit wouldnt power up, the dome light wouldnt turn on, and the door buzzer didnt work when my door was open. I finally got the unit to power up, the only way it will power up is if I cross the red 12v wire and the constant power wire (the yellow one). When my key is in the on position, my head unit, my dome light, and the door buzzer all work. But as soon as I shut the key off they all loose constant power, so my unit looses all its pre set settings, dome light and door buzzer dont work. This is really annoying me now, so any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum,
This forum is full of great looking trucks; packed with great mod ideas and there are loads of knowledgeable and experienced people here.

Sounds like in the course of doing the wiring, you blew the fuse that feeds constant power to the circuits involved. When you tie the red and yellow together, you are essentially back-feeding power to that circuit.

AND - We all like pix! Got any to share?

Enjoy the Z!

The fuse panel you are looking for, for a constant power source, is on the driver's side of the dash assembly. Just open the door and you'll see it.

I believe it is located behind the cover on the left side of the dash. You have to open the drivers door to get at it. I suspect fuse12 (10A).

If you have the grey connectors it is similar to mine. You have red ( power on with key in access or on position ). Yellow ( constant power ) & black ( Ground - put as close to deck as possible. All other wires are for the 4 different speakers - 4 channels. You could probe the harness connector for the deck to check if you get power & ground with key on/off or access positions. Making a wiring diagram ( schematic) might help you picture the path of the wires.
