Question 06 2500 CTD 4x4 Replacing shocks and have level kit. Which shocks?

I found out today my front shocks are shot. The passenger's side has a nasty clunk. Anyway, the truck has a 2" leveling kit on it from the previous owner.

I decided to replace all four shocks. The rear should be stock legnth. How about the front? I thinking Skyjacker or Rancho based on pricing. Nothing fancy, just something decent.

Skyjacker has MANY choices where Rancho has stock-3" lift and 4"-plus legnths (total of two choices). Why is this?

I'd prefer skyjackers since they are priced pretty good right now!

Thoughts and help are greatly appreciated!

Probably because Ranch sells shocks for certain kits they produce, namely 3 & 4 inch lifts.

Bilstein 5100's would be a good choice but they are more expensive than the Skyjackers...I think.

Good luck with your choices

Just called SummitRacing (only 40 min from me) and they walked me through it. Skyjackers are available in stock for rear and 1-2 inch lift for front. Perfect, and only $134 shipped after rebate for all four!

I'm intrested in how you like those shocks once you get them installed. Front shocks are in the plans for the summer to replace my stock length shocks

Well, got the SkyJacker Hydro 7,000 series. Summit Racing had them for $111 shipped including tax for all 4 after rebate! Best of all they were here next day with no extra shipping (ok, I only live 40 min from them, lol).

They're going on today. I'll let you know how it is. Got me to thinking about all I've replaced between 95,000 and 101,000 miles. Oh, and I believe in replacing things in sets...

4 ball joints
2 sway bar bushings
2 tie rod ends
2 sway bar linkages
1 steering damper
2 front wheel barings
2 front U joints
2 rear drive shaft U joints
4 shocks
1 radiator cap
1 radiator drain valve
1 radiator hose
1 fan belt

...soon to be 4 35x17 tires (surely what ate my suspension before)...

Sigh, I hope this is it for a while...
