Default Dealer Markup On Mopar Parts?

So I went into my local Ram Dealer today, and asked about Mopar upgrades. Intake, exhaust, fender flares.

I was quoted,

$1000 - Mopar Intake
$1987 - Mopar Cat Back Exhaust
$955 - Painted Fender Flares

This seems rediculous to me!

I went to my local performance parts place and got quoted on the same parts but aftermarket as follows

$389 - K&N Intake 63 series
$155.33 - Flowmaster Muffler
$505.00 - Bushwacker Fender Flares

My issue is that the dealer told me the aftermarket intake and exhaust void my warranty!

It would be nice if we could use Mopar parts when we want to upgrade our trucks but I think you have identified the very reason that we go to aftermarket parts when possible. Some parts we can only get from Mopar and have to pay their often times outlandish prices. I think that if the dealership told you that the intake and muffler would void your warranty, you need to find a new dealership to do business with. Many many people on this site have made those very changes and not had any trouble with their warranty. There is no sense in fighting with the dealership--just go to another one.

just another example of why most dealerships just suck ass. First, you can order those parts online, from a mopar wholesaler for less than half those prices you quoted. And then to say that it voids your warranty is just stoooopid. I bet they sit around at the end of every month and ask themselves why they don't get many accessory sales. This is clearly another perfect example of non-car people owning a car dealership. I have to tell you that if I owned a dealership, it would be the best place on earth.

The dealer flat out lied to you. Using non-MOPAR aftermarket performance parts does not void your warranty, UNLESS the parts were not properly installed AND/OR they were determined to be the cause of a particular malfunction. Even then the only part of the warranty that would be voided would be that specific item affected.

A good example of this would be your installing a CAI (correctly) and your transmission goes out. The two items are not even remotely related.

good luck. I'd personally find another dealer and either order the MOPAR parts from an online wholesaler or find your favorite aftermarket retailer

personally i would not use Mopar fender flares & what warranty could you void using Bushwackers, the answer is NONE

same with the Muffler, what warranty could be voided, unless your muffler caused too much back pressure, which is unlikely

an aftermarket Cat Back system might void a Warranty, but, likely only having to do with parts directly affected by that function
if the dealer installs that after market part it doesn't void anything, besides a good Cat Back system likely comes with its OWN warranty, if the dealer says that it voided a part of your warranty after being installed by any one, the product brand would cover you, especially if it was installed by a ASE Certified shop

I did some searching and found a Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealer whose parts department is an eBay store as well. They have great prices. And, check out MoparPartsOnline here as well.
