Now I understand why all the reviews of the Ram said to go with the 5.7L. More power/torque and better fuel economy. I've yet to drop below 15.5mpg with my 5.7L doing a 50/50 mix of city/hwy driving.

I get around 11-13mpg city, i only drive on the hwy for 4 miles, so really cant get a true estimate for hwy miles. I'm a volunteer firefighter, so responding to the firehouse in the middle of the night, I really don't worry about the mpg then, i know its not good lol. I did take the truck on a 125 mile trip all hwy, and i can say that the needle was a hair under the fuel mark. So i guess that was a good thing

One thing to keep in mind here is that 2007 and earlier 4.7L's are a different engine than 2008 and newer 4.7L's. I've known a few people (including my father) with the 2007 and earlier 4.7L's, and they seem to get about a best of 17mpg. My dad claims he never gets worse nor better than 17mpg, whether empty, towing, driving easy, or driving hard, it's always 17mpg or right about there. My 2010 4.7L (quad cab 2wd) gets roughly 17mpg city(city as in to and from work, stop and go every few miles at lights, 45-55mph speed limits...) and anywhere from 19-23 hwy depending on speed and other factors like wind, etc...my average always ends up at 17-18 and I drive about 95% city. I also have a tuner running the 93 tune (I noticed a very slight increase in mpg with this, maybe 1 mpg max).

I've got a basically bone-stock '04 with the 4.7L and I average about 17mpg, must be that generation of 4.7L's...

Yeah and my dad's 05 is a single cab, where as my 2010 is a quad cab. My brother also had an 09 single cab and got about the same as I do but that truck was totaled.
