Default RKE and Remote start

OK, new here and I just want to thank everyone for all their input!

I am about to add remote start to my 2011 Ram 1500 which did NOT come with remote keyless entry. From what I understand from all your posts, I have the service tech add the GXM sales code and then follow instructions in the remote start kit. Do they need to program the FOBIK first (after adding GXM code) - then install the remote start - and then re-program the FOBIK to the new WIN or can they add the GXM code and just follow the remote start install instructions and program the FOBIK only once?

I talked the service manager into letting his tech try this out (of course they were hesitant) and I want to make sure they have the right instructions.

I am surprised at how much the dealers don't know. They told me the RER nav unit wouldn't work in my truck - new CAN configuation and only the new RHR unit would work. I took a chance and bought a 2010 RER nav unit (P/N 5064818AC if anyone wants to try it), installed it in less than an hour. It functions perfectly AND controls my iPod with the Mopar cable!

I can say with complete certainty....I don't know.
Do the instructions with the kit give any details on what/when to do certain things?
I would 'think' that adding the code first would be OK. Likely throw codes until the module was there. However, I believe they will need to connect to it once installed to program the FOBIK(s), so maybe the whole programming thing should wait until the physical installation is complete.

If you have the instructions with the kit, I's be tempted to follow them exactly.

I tried this at my local dealer based upon the instructions I gleaned from several posts on this forum. No luck! They could not do it. Yet, when I PM'd the users who posted the instructions I got zero replies, so I am back to square one. If you are successful would you mind letting me know how you did it?

Thanks!

Tim

Default RKE and Remote Start

So far, no good! Truck still at the dealer they're trying to make it work but it doesn't look good (dropped it off there this morning). There is a procedure written by the "Mopar Accessories Team" on how to install remote start on a vehicle with power locks and sentry key immobilzer that did not come from the factory with remote keyless entry but they claim a 50/50 chance that it works. I also gave them the procedure written in this thread. They added the GXM and XBM sales codes but again it looks like it won't work for me. I will update with results tomorrow, they are keeping the truck there over night because believe it or not they can't get the Mopar fog light kit to work either.

Success! I now have remote keyless entry (RKE) and remote start in my 2011 Ram 1500. Both were added at the dealership. The truck did not come with either from the factory. Go back to your dealer and ask them to call Chrysler to walk the tech through the procedure. Chrysler released a bulletin from the "Mopar Accessory Team" on how to add RKE and remote start on truck that did not have them from the factory.

Billzthe1:

Would you have a copy of the bulletin? Just trying to make it simple for the techs.

New to the forum, didn't immediately realize that you could post docs. Happy to help out.
