Default Bed Step

Hello

Just wondering if anyone had added a bed step to their 1500 sport and are they really any good?

I am a short guy and with 20" wheels i might find it hard to climb into the box.

Thanks

Curious as to this myself, though not for me so much as my wife, I am over 6 feet, she is 5'4".

I have also been thinking about getting a step. In most situations, I do not need one but there are times when it would be handy. From what I have read thus far (which is not much), it appears the bumper mount steps won't work on Ram's with the factory dual exhaust. There are some that mount to the inside of the tailgate but that seems a little intrusive to me.

The one solution that seems to have some promise and gets pretty high reviews is the Debo Step (http://www.debostep.com/). I have no personal experience with it but it seems simple enough. Their website specifically states it will work with Dodge factory dual exhaust. No drilling required. Might be something to check out. DO a Google search to find retailers and prices.

Would still love to hear from anyone on the forum who has a step and what their experience is.

I found a round steel bar (rubber coated on top) that plugs into your hitch. It doesn't stick out real far and will protect you from some idiot hitting your bumper. It looks great as it is black and matches my tonneau cover.

It's ideal for getting up to either crawl over your tailgate into the box or to wipe off your tonneau cover.

I had to buy a a 3-step ladder to get up to reach the middle of my roof. I'm 5'8". Didn't need that for my Dodge Dakota.

If you have a Mac Tools in your area you might want to check them out. I paid $10 (on sale). I think they sell for $15.
Check out your auto parts stores.

I've also seen those ^^^^ and I am assuming you are talking about a bed step from the rear, correct?

Here's some ideas:

This looks like something I might try. Even though I'm not vertically challenged my knees don't like climbing up into the bed. I too have bought a step ladder to wash and wax the truck.

Same here RedRam. I am more concerned about jumping out of the truck than climbing in. Most injuries (especially to the knees) come from the dismount. Not being a spring chicken anymore, I want to watch the impact on my knees.

The main reason I don't prefer the hitch steps is they do not work if the tailgate is down. The Debo Step gets around that and can be used with the gate up or down. Both have their advantages, just my personal preference.

I may try that DEBO Step on my '09
$150 plus tax & shipping
i'll have to check with a local truck accessory store first, they carry just about everything else & they also do internet sales

right now i'm using a short step ladder, it is a pain carrying it around
