Default Overhead Center Console Wiring

2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab, 4.7 litre engine
I have only the reading/map lights and the garage door openers in the overhead center console. I need to identify a wire in that console that supplies power only with the key. The lights don't do that as they vary the voltage depending on ambient light and key position and are available without the key and the door openers are also available full time. I need to power a GPS at rear view mirror level without having to remember to shut it off each time the vehicle is turned off.
Any ideas?

I did the exact same thing with my radar detector, but instead of trying to find a wire I just ran power to the fuseblock and tapped into an accessory fuse. As soon as I turn the key it powers up.

Good luck!

You won't find a key on/key off wire up there so what he ^^^^ recommended seems to be the best way to do it. We've done a few cars that way here for power to some accessories.

Upstater and MADDOG,
How hard is it to fish a wire up the door post and across the space between the roof and the ceiling? Would I need to remove the post moldings?

I think you could do it without too much trouble (I did it with the wiring for the radar detector, which I have located up high on the windshield). That being said, it takes less than a minute to pop the caps over the screws and loosen them to make it nice & easy!

The wire is Pink/Light Green stripe. It connects to the mirror, and is on fuse M53 (15amp).

Which wire did you end up using for ground? Is it just black?

In the overhead console, the Black is ground. In the mirror, it's Black/Light Green stripe.
