Default Brake Controller Operation

I received my brake controller a few days ago and installed it the same day. The installation instructions were very clear and thorough, however, apparently you are on your own for operating instructions.

I have owned and used many brake controllers, but I would like to know any specifcs about adjustment.

Anyone got a clue?

i did some digging through the cd for correct operation. it recommends that you set your controller at 6 and drive between 35-40 mph and manually slide the arm over. if the brakes lock up on the trailer lower setting gradually and repeat. Hope this helps

I know all trailers are different, but I keep mine on 6.0 setting and get just the right amount of trailer braking.

As said previously, it's something you have to play with, preferably in a parking lot.

Not sure if your aware of this, but I have read on this forum that if you add the factory brake controller, you need to have the vehicles software updated to accept the controller, via re-flash. I may be wrong on this and hopefully someone can chime in and either shoot me down or verify.

The trailer brakes will work with just adding the new controller. No need to flash. If you do flash, then the EVIC will display the trailer brake controller in the system. The controller will work without the flash.

Think of it like adding a Prodigy. Correctly installing the Prodigy controller will add trailer braking, but no display on the EVIC.
