Default Mildew smell when running air

I live in Maine and run the defroster from November thru April. I turned on the a/c last week and since then I keep getting a mildew smell. can anyone suggest a solution beyond not running the a/c?

Most of the time the smell comes from people not running the a/c thru the winter, but you dont fit that situation..but regardless, you can simply buy Lysol and spray thru the outside vent.
Turn your a/c on full blast thru the dash vents, spray the entire can of lysol through the intake vent below the windshield. This will allow the lysol to get into the system and kill the bacteria that has set up.
There is a special product sold at auto parts stores, but I have found that lysol works just as well.

I found in the past from previous vehicles when I kept the "recirculate" activated all the time, the mildew smell would be at its worst. Always try to use the "fresh air" w/the A/C.

Thanks for the Lysol tip. I will try it and let you know how I make out.

Make sure the drain from the evaporator box isn't clogged. You should see water dripping on the ground under the car when AC is running. If the drain is clogged you'll get standing water, mildew and if it's bad enough, water on the floor inside the car.
