Default Predator & Towing?

anybody do any towing with the Diablosport?
Do you still put your tranny in tow haul?
I got an 08 HEMI and planning on getting the DS predator for a little more performance, and maybe disabling the MDS on my engine.

Yes, you still use tow haul.

Welcome to the forum. I created your own thread in the proper section and moved your post vs. having an old, old thread revived.

Take a moment to go to the Newbie Intro section and introduce yourself and your truck. Extra Credit is given for pics.

i have just installed the trinity and was wondering if i have to run the lower tune or can i run the high tune when towing. i ve heard that you pretty much have to put it back to stock tune? any feed back would be wonderfull... also the tuner only came with 3 tunes 87 91 and 93 octane... not to sure how to get a custom tune yet. all i can find is the ones for like $2000 from diablos website

I ran the 91 tune when I towed a trailer from here in Oregon to LA, then on to Phoenix. No problems whatsoever and I had to pull some pretty steep grades. You don't have to, and don't want to, turn it back to stock tune to tow.

As far as a custom tune by email, Johan @ DiabloSport can do one. Bob @ SVS in Sacramento can do one.

I got my custom tune, for my SRT on a dyno, at a local authorized DiabloSport dealer and tuner. You might check with DiabloSport to see if they have one near you.

Otherwise, a tune by email will work. You will just have to read up on how to use the DS Downloader and how to upload a tune to the Predator then on to the vehicle.

Maddog, not meaning to hijack this thread, but is there a huge difefrnece between the canned tunes and custom tunes if all I have are mild "Bolt ons" like CAI, Exhaust, DSP?

I am running the canned 91 tune on the truck.

I have a CMR tune on the SRT and yes, I experienced a very nice, noticeable, performance increase. My 1/4 mile time went from a 13.3x to a 12.71 under a very close to even DA condition.

You can count on about 2 hours on a dyno for a tune. Cost varies...mine cost $300...and it's based on shop rates. The last price I was quoted on a custom tune by email was $175 with three tweaks included but that was a few years ago.

I just got home from vacation with the Travel Trailer (6000#), and while was there picked up a Diablo Sport tuner. I set the 87 tune, and from the way it felt to me the truck didn't seem to have the low end torque, (in tow/haul by the way). It slowed more in the small hills and shifted a lot more it seemed, so I pulled over and went to the factory tune but disabled the mds and it "seemed" better, held gear in the smaller hills for longer, which might not be better but it wasn't losing speed either.

These are very loose seat of the pants observations that I felt, and in the future when I take the trailer Im gonna go to a factory tune, unless I can get a custom towing tune not sure if thats possible first tuner I ever had or tried. I'm coming in to the new age from the old carb erra.
