I dont see much of a cost savings, if 1 tank of 87 cost 60.00 and 2 tanks of E85 cost 90.00+ to go the same distance. The E85 will burn cleaner and be better for the world we live in, but E85 lacks the "punch" gas has, thats why the mileage is so poor. Even the added 10% ethanol in our regular gas has caused a drop in mpg. I lost roughly 15-20 miles to a tank of gas in my Dakota when they added 10%. Thats why I had a post going about using R90 "recreational 90" gas its used in boats, chainsaws, etc.. engines that were not desinged to run on gas with ethanol added to it, its 90 octane and the 5.7 likes 89. But its "not" for daily driver use because its not taxed like regular gas.

So try it and see how it goes the 4.7 is a flex fuel engine. Like mentioned above I wouldnt use it if I had a load on the truck like a camper and four wheeler. I would try it around town first.

Yeah the ethanol runs 30% more. A good way to think of it is, multiply the cost of ethanol by 30%. if it comes out lower than the difference is from reg gas, it is worth your $.

my bad you are right. 07+. And Every time I have used E85, I have noticed a power INCREASE. Maybe just me but it seems like it had more power than on regular 87 octane.

I'd be careful with that statement. Right in my manual it states that SOME 4.7's come with the OPTION of flex fuel.

My '08 does not have the option. Maybe in the States they all do, I don't know about that, but there are many 4.7 owners on the forum who would also NOT have the flex fuel option.

May have been an option in canada, but in the USA to my knowledge, they are all FFV's

Best way to tell is look for the yellow gas cap. If you dont have it, dont use it.

2010 Ram 1500 4.7L 4WD Ratings
Gasoline = 13/18 15 (Disclaimer: EPA Test on G100 not the typical E10 Blend)
E85 = 9/12 10

If it's all about the fuel economy, then get a tuner that allows you to adjust your air/fuel ratio. Gas is 14.7.1 and E85 is 9.67.1...That's why mileage and performance may be crap. Don't hate E85 just because the engine isn't tuned right.

Its not the tuning. The tuning is already right in a Flexfuel vehicle. Using the stoich numbers you gave (actually peak fuel mileage occurs at a leaner ratio than this at low cylinder density) by your own numbers it requires 1.52 lb of alcohol for every lb of gasoline to make equivalent power. Given that gasoline typically weighs 6.073 lb per gallon and ethanol 6.584 lb per gallon you will use approximately 40% more alcohol (in gallons) than gasoline. Thats a 29% drop in fuel mileage. im not going to try to convert from pump gas to E85 because the actual percentage of ethanol in pump gas can vary form 0-15%.

There is not currently a gas pump in this state (public anyway) that pumps E85.
