Default someone please explain mygig and lockpick to me

I keep seeing both of these things being talked about but I can't find anything that really explains them both. Although I did not do a very good search for it, I would like to have it all in one place.

At a very high level, MyGig is a type of radio in Dodge/Chrysler vehicles with a touch screen, dvd player, hard drive etc. Not sure when they became an option, but it seems like it was in the last few years.

Lockpick is a product by Coastal Electronic Technologies that plugs into MyGig (as well as other) radios that unlocks features such as video while driving, adds extra video/audio inputs, allows multiple cameras etc.

Hope this helps.

^^^^ Good explanation. I just installed a lockpick because I wanted to use an aftermarket camera on the factory Mygig unit. I can add that the cable for the lockpick is plug and play between the lockpick module and the factory wiring. The lockpick wiring harness also includes video in and video out cables and provides 12v power for front and rear cameras and an RCA video in plug for the cameras. The unit allows you to switch between front camera and back camera at will while the vehicle is in motion. It can also be setup to have the rear camera come on when you are in reverse and the front camera to come on when you slow to under 8MPH. You can also view a DVD while moving (for front passanger only of course ). Overall I'm very impressed with it. Here is a pic of the module and cable. Hope this answers your question.

thanks guys!! That does help a lot! How much is this lock pick? Where do you get them? Does it void any warranty?

I didn't know that a movie wouldn't play while driving! That kind of sucks but I guess it makes since. My girlfriend would love to watch a movie while we go on a long trip..

Hi, Can't answer about the warranty but you could always remove it should something happen. There is also a switch on the lockpick module thats for dealer mode (so it will function as factory if you flip it on). I just have mine sitting on the floor behind the small right kick panel under the console so I can get at it if needed. I also have a set of video in cables tucked up under there for an aux input should I need it (computer etc.)
I bought mine off Ebay from titaniumcoupe for $185.95, it's the V3 high speed bus one from CoastalEtech. If you have any more questions just PM me.

Do you have to take apart the dash and everything to hook this thing up? I have always had bad experiences with taking cars apart in that they NEVER go back together as solid as they were before I messed with them!

Yes you do have to take the bezel surrounding the radio/HVAC controls as well as around the centre console. I have already had mine apart twice and it's pretty solid, nothing broke and I have no rattles. The hardest was the silver trim ring around the shifter/cup holders, it's on pretty good. I used a plastic trim removal tool I got once when I had to change an IPod battary, it worked great. There are good instructions posted on here somewhere and if you can't find them I could Email a .pdf of them. Just PM me .
