I agree, just weld in a new Magnaflow, the stock muffler is a Huge restrictive Boat Anchor!
for intake just get a K&N Drop-in filter for the stock box...about $50.

then wait patiently for a Diablo tune for the 2011's

I think that's what I'll do! I've already got the K&N Drop In Filter, although I don't think it helps much..but today I'm gonna go to a muffler shop to see how much a magnaflow will cost me. I want it to be slightly louder than stock..so I'm thinking 22" or 24"?

24" is barely louder than stock.
it would be better without resonators, but not much.

22" is perfect without resonators,
(that's the Magnaflow Cat Back configuration that I have)
nice deep mellow rumble at idle, no drone in cab with an aggressive Growl at wide open throttle.

Here's mine <click pic for video link>

18" is about the same as the Cat Back if you leave the stock resonators on.

I just got back from a muffler shop in town, and the guy told me the only muffler that wouldn't sound like crap when I was in MDS mode would be a Dynomax. To replace the muffler would be $275 with installation. For that money, I think I'm rather gonna go with an intake.

go search some youtube videos and find the sound you like. then shop around and order the muffler yourself. lastly, call some muffler shops and ask how much it will cost to remove and replace your muffler with the one you bought. the muffler is a better mod over the cai anyday.

Yup an aftermarket intake is not going to make much difference over the stock box with a K&N filter.

Why? Because they all use the same limited stock fender opening as the stock air box
...this is what it looks like in the engine compartment when you remove the stock box...

View from the front with passenger side headlight removed:

You can add a filter element the size of a garbage can, but the size of the opening wont get any more air to your intake.

Find a different muffler shop that carries Magnaflow, $100 for a muffler and about the same for labor...Max!
a good one should also be able to get you one of these for $27

Well I'm all for getting a muffler instead of CAI, but how do I get around the MDS? The guy at the shop said Magnoflow and Flowmaster both sound awful when the truck runs on 4 cylinders. Supposedly Dynomax has a solution for it. He explained it to me, but I forgot already.

once Diablo releases tuning for the 2011's you can disable MDS if you dont like it, I dont even notice it.
Some here who have disabled MDS actually saw increased fuel economy.

I bet Dodge never tested it on actual roads with hills and valleys and varied wind conditions.
Probably a close circuit track or strapped to a Dyno indoors LOL!

the muffler guy doesn't know what he's talking about...get a 22 " mag, really quiet but you can tell it's there at wot...I've seen guys with RT's get 14" mags that like the sound..even with mds...I'd shop a little, my muffler shop here would do a 22" mag for about $150.. your guy is tryn to make money off the muffler too, mine just wants labor monies, charges cost for mufflers...

later on if you decide to get a programmer like diablo...you can disable mds with it..

Oh, when you race...do not stall up, you will pull timing..just stomp the pedal from the gitgo, and hope you have traction..
