Havent had a single problem out of this thing.
Recently Ive been hearing some squeaking like dry rubber on steel from the rear area. Actually I cant tell if it metal on metal or rubber on metal. Then I start to get some howling. Not loud but enough to notice it with the windows up. Im thinking OK its low on fluid. Plus I really should have a look at those dreaded C clips to make sure they are in place.
I open the pumpkin up and she is full of fluid. Everything looks nice and clean. Not shiny and worn but in good shape. There at the bottom clumped together are the pieces!! I noticed on the inside of the cover there are some fresh scratches from the ring like it shifted and just lightly touched the cover.
The pieces were clumped together in the limited slip additive. I pulled the pieces out and spread them on a paper towel trying to ID where they came from. I dont see anything missing. All teeth on everything in there are there. I could spin the rear tires and all is smooth and quiet. C clips are locked in place. I snapped a picture of the pieces and sent them to a friend of mine who knows rear ends (no pun) he thinks they are pieces of a destroyed bearing but couldnt be sure. Im not sure if the big ring has bearings inside that it would spin on. It would seem logical as the ring has tried to shift and lightly scratch the cover.
I got the pieces cleaned up and a photo taken of them to post up to see if someone can ID where these might be from. These are the big pieces I had a bunch more smaller ones that I tossed and didnt have any definitive shape to them.
If you click on the full size icon above the photo you can really bring it up large to look at it
Im really surprised these pieces didnt lockup the rings on me
Can anyone ID these or where they are from.
