Default Fender Ticket

On the way to work this morning I was pulled over because my tire sticks out about in inch past the body of my truck. Cop said I need fenders and bigger mud flaps and gave me a fix it ticket. Extremely stupid ticket if you ask me and the cop was at most 22 years old.

I may try and fight it but if not does anyone have pictures/suggestions of what fenders to go with and what looks good/where to get them. Thanks!

BushWacker are nice with several different styles, spendy though. There are also quite a few OEM style kits on eBay for less $ depending on the look you want. That sucks he actually hassled you about that, those don't stick out nearly as bad as some, and I personally don't like mud flaps so that would really irritate me. Good Luck !

I can understand the rule in some cases, but come on yours aren't even that bad! I'd say it's pretty good you even have flaps on there, at least you are trying. I have full respect for the uniform, but always find myself questioning really young officers...just can't help it.

Definitely not as bad as some I see every day around here, that's pretty crazy. I agree, though, I have respect for the uniform, too, but c'mon. Makes ya wonder what that cop drives when he's off duty.

Kind of a d!ck ticket but totally legal. You are in violation of the statute.

Every county has a different law; so find out what your county has for its law regarding your tire stick out. I know my local laws say they can't be more than 3.5cm outside of the outer fender. Find out the info and fight it, then get a set of fender flares and then there'll be no issue.

buy a set of fender flares, they stick out enough, usually 3 different styles, 1/2 inch to 2 1/2 inch
then get rid of those fitted flaps & put on a set of regular flaps or SPATS as Dodge calls them, i moved the flaps slightly outwards

I have always respected the law and give the police respect but I really feel crappy about this ticket. Doesn't seem like in CA there is any measurement.

This is what he cited me on "27600. No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread. This section does not apply to those vehicles exempt from registration, trailers and semitrailers having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds, or any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds."

I have been very lucky on that violation
maybe because they have been forgetting about the year of registration, i am below 1,000 pounds
then again, a Sheriff has not pulled me over, only city & CHP have
