Question Laramie vs. Laramie Longhorn

Hopefully i am not starting a thread that is similar to a previous. I am new at this, i did a search and did not find anything. SO here is my problem.

I am planning on purchasing a 2011 Ram 1500 Laramie or a Laramie Longhorn in mid-summer early fall when the dealers are trying to clear 2011s for 2012s. I realle like chrome and the Longhorn has tons of it bumpers, grille, door handles, mirrors, side steps, wheels. Whereas the Longhorn has gold bumpers, and side steps. So for that reason I would prefer the Laramie. BUT the Longhorns interior is REALLY nice with all the stitching and what not, and comes with more standard features like back-up cam, spray in boxliner etc. But are fancy seats worth the extra $5000? I know the ultimate decission is up to me. any ideas or thoughts???
Thanks in advance...

I just bought a Laramie...loaded. Absolutely love it. I tend to drive my trucks for 8-10 years so I prefer to load them up front and depreciate it over time. My thought is if I get it now, I won't have to wish I did later. Up to you and how much you can comfortably afford. Just my two cents worth.

Dealers are making some pretty awesome deals right. Negotiate hard and you will be surprised how much you might get off the MSRP. Check out this thread --> http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread....ght=kind+deals.

I would look for a Ram with a 3.92 rear end ratio with LSD ( limited slip differential ) not the drug
a back up camera is one purchase that i use a lot, especially at night
get a radio that has a screen & everything on that radio works, especially all the Uconnect functions

On June 1, '11 people can start custom ordering the '12 Rams, but, they will NOT start making them until at least August
The factories are closing in June to update equipment, a month earlier than normal, they are closing because of lack of the better paint colors & having problems getting electronic products, both are in short supply because of the earthquake, tsunami, & not having electricity in Japan. Those factories are located fairly close to that power plant.
The paint pigment factory is back to producing, but, no where close to full operation, which will happen next month

Agree with everything GT said, especially about the 3.92 gears. A quick search of this forum and you will find most people agree on that upgrade. If you hook up to a trailer often or even once in a while, the backup camera is a dream. Will make you wonder how you ever lived without one.

I just read an article on the 2012. There will not be any changes from the 2011. Body style, engine and tranny will be th same. I have the Laramie with Backup camera and love it. Now if you do your homework and shop real hard, and most of all DO NOT listen to the salesperson, YOU can get that longhorn without paying that extra 5k. When you find a truck you want color etc, knock off 5k from what they are asking and bargain with your trade from there. If it comes to an impass with bargaining, give them your tel number and tell them to call when they are ready to sell at your price and then and WITHOUT further talking, go get in your vehicle and LEAVE the premise. Let us know how it goes and good luck.

I have a loaded Laramie, super truck...but it's leather seating,(build sheet says leather seating option) I'd swear is really vinyl..If there is any leather there, I sure can't seem to find it or tell it from the vinyl... have had lots of vehicles with leather, and none, that i couldn't tell apart from vinyl before..... Now the Longhorn has real leather seating that almost rivals a Rolls Royce in quality...and there is no doubt from smell and touch that it is leather....So if leather is important to you, it may be worth it to consider the Longhorn option... 3.92 rear end is also the way to go...good hunting

This is really helpful. I didn't know the laramie was more vinyl like than leather. That really makes the Longhorn look like a better deal. Thanks "wylie" i will definetly wheel and deal and walk out if i have to. There's lots of dealerships around, i can drive place to place if i have to. I will definetly get the 3.92 lsd. My father just got a 04 rumble bee (#575) w/ 3.92 lsd. Put it down and . Better than the 3.73 lsd in my truck, i wouldn't even look at a 3.55. with Not sure to get the 121L fuel tank for long distance driving or 98L. I dont drive long distances often, but might be nice to fill up less often. Does the bigger tank slosh around alot??? I will be sure to keep yous all updated. The dealer i want to deal with is moving into new building June 16th might get some moving sales. thanks again for all the help...
