Question New tranny pan gasket rtv y/n?

I just bought a new OEM tranny oil pan + the gasket. This gasket is hard plastic with something similar to small O-ring material weaved all around on it on both sides. Is RTV still used? OR is this gasket design good enough?

Your not suppose to use RTV for the transmission. Never use it for the oil pan. The regular cork or rubber gasket is perfectly fine. Torque the bolts to 13 ft/lbs or if you don't have a wrench in ft/lbs then torque to 156 in/lbs

Be sure to go around the bolts on the pan after torquing to make sure they are torqued properly.

But yea never use RTV. It's not a good idea.

Exclamation gasket/torque

Hi, thx for the response. When I removed the original pan, I found it had an identical gasket that I bought with the new pan. Unknown to me, these gaskets can be re-used. So I now have an extra. My Chiltons list 2 trannys for this truck and I don't know which I have. 1 says 105"/lbs and 1 uses 125"/lbs of torque on the tranny pan bolts. I chose the lesser of the 2 and will keep an eye on it. I changed the filter while I had it open. I found a small piece of metal on the magnet and I'm not sure what it is. About 1/16" thick and it is obviously broken from a larger piece. It looks like a partial 'arch' like it is a piece of a 3/16" wide washer for lack of a better description.

No washer's that I know of in tranys. I wouldn't worry about it. Yea just don't ever use RTV. I wouldn't of reused that gasket, I would just replace it don't be cheap. It would suck to leak trany fluid while driving! What ever the chilton says I guess ok, I go usually by what I am supplied by Chrysler.
