well as it turned out, i ended up buying the Bakflip HD. that seemed to be the hard cover of choice on some other forums. i didn't receive it yet but once it's been fully tested i'll post an update on its performance.

The Bakflip seems to be the fold up cover of choice among the majority of posters. I'm thinking of getting one, so will be interested in your evaluation of it!

I've had my BakFlip HD for a little over a month. Very easy to install, looks great and water tight. I'm interested to see how it holds up after a few years.

well for what its worth i ended up buying and installing a bakflip HD. i can tell you i definately would not have been happy with the regular bakflip. the weight of the HD is about what i would have expected out of the regular one. the cover fits perfectly between the plastic covered tops of the bed side rails and the length could not have been better. only problem i see is that in 5 years all of that exposed rubber on the exterior of it will probably need to be replaced. as for water intrusion, we'll see what happens next time it rains. its definately not going to be as water tight as my avalanche bed cover but if it keeps the bed he mostly dry i'll be pretty happy with it. the fit and finish of it is awesome. got the cover for $829.

I have had the BakFlip F1 for over a month now and have no complaints. Install was fairly easy since the rails were already pre-installed at the factory. I have the Ramboxes too and it works just fine with those. Took about a week or so for the rubber edges to mold flat to the bed but once it did, the cover was water tight.

Hey all, I was wondering when the backflip top is folded all the way so you can have use of the whole truck bed, does the top rest against the cab or it free standing by the support rods?

Glad you like the HD, I have an F1 to go with my Ramboxes, I do like it, it is not flawless, but it gets the job done.

Amazing how many of us had Avalanches before!

I considered engineering the Avalanche panels after I got my F1, but I am already $800 into the Bakflip and a set of used Avalanche Panels would probably cost me about that much. I think they were $600 each new. It is nice to not have to put them some where when you just need a little more room, but the shear ruggedness of the Avalanche Panels plus the sealing was second to none!
