Default dealer installed trailer brake controller

To my knowledge I had ordered my truck with the trailer brake controller, but when it arrived it didn't, so the dealership agreed to put one in.

After taking the truck off the lot, I noticed they had installed some aftermarket unit under the dash just above the accelerator pedal when I was expecting an OEM trailer break controller installed at the location intended by Dodge Engineers.

Questions:

1) Has anyone had a Dodge Ram OEM trailer brake controller installed by the dealer and, if so, what was your experience?
2) Is a Dodge Ram OEM trailer brake controller even available?
3) What do you think of the install (see pics) on a +$50K truck??? The screws on the right side are not even tight!!!!

Thanks for your opinion and advise!!

I would be very unhappy with that control. The OEM control fits in your dash by your P brake release and looks like its part of your dash. they also flash it to become visible in your EVIC. I would say that they are trying to take advantage of your plesent personality.

I think you should take it back and tell them to install the factory TBC that you ordered. Check out this thread to see what the factory one look's like.http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=52410

OEM brake controller that you probably thought you were getting

The controller they installed on your truck? Not so much. I would be so pissed if I was expecting the factor controller and they screwed that into my dash. My controller with the bezel cost $112 shipped to my house. Imagine how less it would cost the dealer.

If I were you I'd be headed back there to have them explain why they installed what they installed and then tell them it's not acceptable.

Wow I sure wouldn't accept that. Yes they make a factory unit that you or the dealer can install. Dealer would then flash the computer so it shows on the EVIC.

That is exactly what I thought. Thank you all for your input.

I'll ask them to replace the panel they screwed the aftermarket controller in as well. Maybe you can't see the screw holes, but I know that they are there and that should be enough reason to replace it on a brand new truck...

Otherwise love the look and feel if my new truck!
Will let you know how it all turns out!
Again thank you all!

That is completely nuts. When I purchased my truck (2011 RAM 1500) it had everything I wanted except the factory break controller. Before signing the paperwork the sales guy and I went back to the parts counter and I opened the box for their brake controller and verified that it was the OEM controller and I would end up with a "factory unit". I am heading back next week for that install.

When the trucks first came out they did not offer the OEM controller as a retrofit so it may be that your dealer did not know it was available. My sales guy was not sure and had to check on that to find out that it was available.

I hope that the OEM unit is actually sensing pedal pressure, something a non-factory unit will not do. I have used two after market units in the past for light trailers and they worked well, biggest nuisance was hitting my foot on them occasionally when getting in the rig. You need a return trip to have them install the factory controller.
