Default Destruction in Joplin.....as seen thru my eyes

After seeing pictures on tv and being in denial, Dad and I went out to see what I didn't want to. I didn't want to be a looky loo and gawk at everyone else's misfortune but I needed to see what this tornado did. It was one of the hardest things I have had to look at and it was done while in constant tears. It is amazing how mother nature can go along and erase herself, leaving the landscape devoid of life and color. Seeing broken homes I felt like an intruder, peeking into someone's private life as it was strewn all around. I pray that no one here ever has to go through this but I also know natural disasters are inevitable. It can and will happen and it CAN happen to YOU.

Driving south on Shifferdecker, around 26th

Going east on 32nd

St Johns Medical Center

Driving on North Main having turned off 32nd

Pizza Hut

Scenes of destruction

Taco Bell at 26th

On Rangeline driving south to north. The hardest hit area was before 20th to 15th. This is just past 29th and you start seeing damage.

There are no words to describe seeing these pics that I've seen for almost a week now through your lens and I think that one pic with the house that had "God Bless Joplin" written across the front really makes a poignant statement. Incredible pics Stacy, my prayers are still with all of the people there. It really puts a personal perspective on things when it's someone you actually know that lives there. I know it was hard, but thank you for sharing those.

wow, my heart aches and goes out to everyone in Joplin. My daughter lives just up the road so Im pretty familiar with the area, feel pretty helpless being able to do nothing. But I have talked to the local Kroger and we are coordinating getting a couple semi trailers loaded up with food to ship over. They are raising the money this weekend at the "Herrin Fiesta Italiana" in Herrin, IL just a little town in So. IL, still doesnt feel like enough though.

OMG
all those people who had their lives turned upside down
where do you start, maybe you can clear up the mess & rebuild, but the people will still be in bad shape in one way or another for years

I saw on the news today, 1 person was able to get a building permit & start reconstruction of a beauty salon, but people just down the street were refused when they applied for housing permits

I saw that in the news too, made me smile! We will bounce back. All that destruction on Rangeline GT isn't too far from where we met up.
