Glad to see what I've seen on tv actually there and really helping people. It really is amazing how something we all take for granted can be so comforting to those who have lost everything.

Where is the aide when our own people need it? That is just devistating. I hope they can all get back to some normal living conditions soon. My prayers are with the people of Joplin and their families. Now Obama should step up and do something good - he has to start somewhere since I have not seen a whole lot from him.

Prayers out to those affected by the tornadoes and kudos to the companies like Tide and Duracell (from the photos) that have stepped in to help. My business will go to those companies.

Volunteered last weekend. My crew cab cab came in very handy as my buddy from Columbus, KS (forumz member 'Fatmandue'), and 2 fellow co-workers went out with a group of about 12 guys to help clean up. All the pics and stories are terrible, but they do no justice to actually being here and witnessing it all in person. It's one thing to cut trees and haul off strewn remains of houses, but the hardest part was sifting through an 85 yr old womans house for anything salvageable. She went from a house, to a pile of lumber and nothing left but a foundation. No walls, and the only thing standing was the toilet, which oddly enough still had water in it. We ended up with a small pile of things that included a broken sewing machine and some family photos. Luckily she was in a neighbors basement and was able to be dug out and tell her story. The oddest part of this was that as I looked the opposite direction of where the woman took cover, the neighbors open bedroom, there was a book case that looked untouched with all the books perfectly in order. The way a tornado effects property is simply amazing.
We are hoping to go out again this weekend if time allows. I wish I could help everyday, but work is demanding, and have to pay the bills (I guess Chrysler still wants a check...lol).
From Joplin, thanks all for the support. Like Blue, I was not directly affected, but just about a mile from my house homes were obliterated.
And Blue, great pics, but I have one small correction to your photo commentary. You mentioned that the gas station in your pics was the one where the people hid in the cooler... that was actually the Fast-Trip station on 20th and Duquesne Rd. I know one of the guys who worked there (his voice is in the video actually). The Fast-Trip was leveled. That is if this is the video you speak of (if not, I retract my correction):

(By the way, watch the follow-up video that the guy did, you'll see what the station looks like now. For those who want to know what it did look like, go to Google Maps and type in "20th and Duquesne Joplin, MO", and zoom to the street-level view.)

My bad FG.....there have been so many things said in the last two weeks since it hit and it is hard to pick fact from fiction. I stand corrected.

That just brings tears to my eyes....my wife and I have adopted two families from Joplin. We will be sending care packages with clothes, can goods etc. We also adopted an elderly couple, the man has one leg and can't get around. They lost everything they ever had....it is just sad..damnit.

We experienced a flood in 92 that destroyed our home and 22 others in our neighborhood, so I can relate and feel the need to give back. I never met so many nice people in my life as I did during that. Contractors pulling up giving us anything we needed, workers walking up to help demo the house and rebuild. It was truly amazing.

Keep the Faith Joplin...

Stacy, Seeing those pictures saddens my heart! My thoughts and prayers go out to you and Joplin.

I will say the attitude here is good. People are done with the shock and sadness and ready to move forward. Anyone looking to donate, please don't send clothes. Every agency in town is inundated with clothes! All the charities I talked to on Tuesday said they need supplies and money. Things like hygiene products (shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste etc...) and household cleaning supplies (gloves is a big need).

Every where you look there is someone giving something away or a trailer set up for help. St Johns has been looking at the empty building next to my work to use as a storage facility. Baby steps forward......

Will be talking to our Catholic church over the weekend to see about getting some of those items boxed up and on the way. I know we have a few of those items already since a few people donate all year long.
