Default 2002 Towing / Suspension MODS

Towing: I'm upgrading my 2002 2WD 4.7L Dodge Ram 1500 Sport to pull 6 to 8,000 lbs (4000 lb car and 2000 lb trailer). I have researched Class IV Hitches, Curt 14361 is the closest I have found, but the installation manual shows a different placement of the rear bumper beam that what I have on the truck. Has anyone added a Class IV Hitch to a work truck. Work arounds? I'm just trying to avoid drilling, etc. I've also email Curt MFG to determine if the hitch will work. Also going to send them picutures.

Suspension: To increase the towing capacity from 5000 to the 8,000lbs, what do you recommend. 3/4 ton leaf springs, airbags, or a bolt on suspension mod that doesn't affect the ride or height of truck.

My towing will be short, or once or twice over a three year period. I have three cars, but only two drivers, therefore when I move, I just need something that can handle the pull, hold suspension height (maintain truck stance). Nothing like going down the road dragging the rear end. I can't stand that. Plus doesn't look good.

Your towing capacity is what it is. There isnt any changing it. You can build your truck up to handle more weight but legally you can only tow as much as your truck is rated at. If you should be in an accident without a properly equipped truck/trailer your insurance wont cover it ontop of other legal trouble you may have to face

Thanks. I'm going to work with local Dodge Dealer, Insurance, State Dept of Trans, and Off Road Company to legally do it. Even change the documentation on the truck. Since the truck was gifted to me with only 10,000 miles on it, spending a few thousand to increase the towing capacity from 5,000 to 8,000 is cheeper than buying new. Everything from puting factory 20s on it, with larger brake and rotor, so upgrading the suspension, towing hitch, etc. And since I'm in the military, I'll purchase the registration in a state allowing the truck to tow 8,000. I've got MO, KS, and TN to choose from, so I'm sure one of them will work with me if I do the hard work of getting all the documentation updated through Dodge after MODS. Even if I must make it a 3/4 ton underneath. Whatever it takes.
