Default Gracenotes

I have just upgraded to the latest software, 3373. I've only had my Ram for a few weeks so all of this Mygig stuff is brand new to me. I purchased the upgrade from a guy on ebay. He's saying that it takes a while for the radio to "absorb" the upgrade. I've never seen any computer related equipment absorb anything. Usually it's there or it's not. Assuming what the guy is telling me is true, how long should it take to "absorb" the database and start to recognize my songs?

You are correct it's either there or not. You can get the Gracenote updates, and Radio S/W updates from the site listed below. (Free) Make sure you read the direction's and follow them exactly for burning and installing. Did mine a couple of month's ago. No problem's. Even with the latest Gracenote update I still have many song's that are not in the database. Can't post the actual link.

I actually tried that site. It didn't work for me, so I tried purchasing the dvd from someone who purports to be more technically proficient than myself. Oh well, I guess I'll try the free site again.

It does take about 1/2 hour to install the update, so maybe that's what he meant by 'absorb'. It is best to install the update when you are going on a long drive, as it is recommended that the engine be running, and it's very important that you do not do anything that interrupts the radio power during the update process, so a long highway drive is a great opportunity.

You're correct, it does take awhile to do the Gracenotes update. Never thought that's what he meant by "absorb". I did mine while the truck was sitting in the driveway. It was taking so long I thought there was something wrong. But it eventually finished and everything was a-ok.

I don't think we're looking at the word absorb the same way. it did take about 20 minutes to install the software, but it's been a couple of days and my HDD is still not recognizing any of the tunes that I installed immediately after the database installation.

Then either of -
a) Your choice of tunes does not fit the North American Gracenotes profile and the information is not in the database.
b) The database did not load properly
c) It's the wrong database.

Once the installation is complete, the information is available right away....at least that's how it worked on mine and 2 other installs I did for others.

Now you've got me wondering, the guy I bought the database from asked if the radio was an import after I reported my results to him. Anyone know of a way to determine that?

I checked the version after the install and it read 3373, I'm not sure if it loaded properly or not, my unit did recognize a cd right away, but after I loaded the cd to the HDD, it did not recognize the tunes. I'm at a lost and open for suggestions. This is getting to be frustrating.
