That wikipedia article is what made me think maybe the Magnum and HO were the same because they basically lump them into the same description. I hadn't seen the allpar article but it must be older because it references the HO engine being Jeep only which contradicts wikipedia and the fact that I have seen HO Dakotas. So....I still don't know, lol.

Well I got my build sheet in my email today but it still didn't exactly clear things up. Near the top it lists....

"A82P 4.7L Eng (EVA)"

and then a ways down below that it says....

"EVA 4.7L V8 MPI Engine"

While Googling I found a Yahoo answers post that stated that the standard Magnum engine uses code (EVA) and the high output engine uses code (EVC). I don't know if this person knows what they are talking about though because the rest of their response was full of incorrect information, lol. All things considered and given that my build sheet doesn't say "high output" anywhere on it, I'm fairly certain I have the standard 4.7.

I'm still curious though. Maybe I haven't Googled enough but I have yet to run across a Ram owner with the HO 4.7. Likewise, I haven't found any photos or Rams with "high output" badges on the body or engine. I'm going to call the dealership tomorrow and see if they can tell me anything.

pretty sure if you go to KBB and then click the "free carfax" thing you can put your VIN in and when it pops up it'll be in the top right. That's how we found out the kid I mentioned earlier had the HO in his Dakota

I called the dealer this morning and left the service manager a message. He called me back within about 30 minutes. He confirmed when looking at your build sheet (EVA) is the code for the standard engine and (EVC) is the code for the high output.

Case closed I guess. Don't know why I'm disappointed, lol. It's not like it was going to make my truck any faster if I found out it was HO!!

Thanks for all the replies.

Lucky you, lol. I'm envious. The link to get your build sheet that was posted earlier in this thread works great. I sent it in one day and got it the next. Sounds like you should see engine code (EVC) on yours. Congrats.

Getting the build sheet through email is really very simple and quick and it's neat to have. You can can also have the service dept at your local dealer print it off for you or you can call them and they can look it up and tell you over the phone. Depending on who you talk to they may or may not know much about the HO engines and codes but all you need is for them to tell you of it is code EVA or EVC.

I'm sure there is a way to tell just by looking but I don't know what it is. The lack of information on this engine in Ram trucks makes me wonder if it was a relatively small percentage of Rams that got this engine. Let us know!

I have the 4.7 Magnum air hat, but the EVA engine code. I used the build sheet link - got a response within 48 hours AND included a recall service that hasn't been completed on my 2006 (passenger seat belt).

Thanks for the post.
