Default Warn VR1200 winch

Has anyone used the Warn VR1200. I am looking for a winch with enough power for use on a 2500 diesel truck and have been seeing these VR1200 for a good price. They are about $1000 cheaper than the other 1200lb Warn winch and I have not been able to find out why this one is so much cheaper. Is there another winch that any of you would recommend?

The VR12000 is a really nice winch for the occasional use. The M12000 is just a better built winch that will stand up to day in day out abuse.

There are a few differences. These are rated at 12,000 # single line pull. The VR12000 has a bit stronger motor and weighs 47# less! I was looking to see if this winch has an auxiliary fan to cool the motor but couldn't tell from Warn's specs on their website.

I really don't see a lot of difference between the two. The line speeds are about the same, they draw about the same amperage while pulling. The biggest single difference I see is the gear ratio. The M12000 has a bit more grunt at a 261:1 ratio while the VR12000 is rated at 216:1 and the clutches are different.

Is the gear ratio and clutch type worth an additional $1K? I think the M12000 is a bit stronger unit but that's your value judgement to make.

Good luck!

Default Superwinch talon 12.5I

Just searching Amazon and found superwinch talon 12.5I for $617.95 and shipped for free. I thought it was an error. I called Superwinch and spoke with Mike, he said that it was a steal and I should jump on it. I pulled the trigger and am waiting for the shipment. I looked this morning and saw the price was back up to 849 with free shipping. Mike also said that the EP series winches were no longer in production. They are the last of the US made winches from them other than the Husky winches. Lifetime warranty and 3 years on electrical components. Also waterproof. He also said superwinch has its own factory overseas run by Americans and that they dont do any other winches for off brand company. I live in CT so I can always go up the street to them for any problems. So for me it was worth it. Now I just have to figure out how to mount on my 03 2500. I like the idea of multi mount but your only able to pull 9k in straight line pull. I'm always stuck nose first. But I'll figure it out. I have a great welding shop in town and they have given me a bunch of Ideas. I'll keep posted w pics when it gets here.
