Question What upgrades do I need for towing?

New Ram owner here. Had a Ford, sold her and bought a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 DRW 5.9 Cummings. The truck was bought from a used car dealer and has the following "stuff" added prior to me getting it.

4 inch AFE cold air in-take, 4 inch Magna-Flow exhaust. A Van Aaken 3 position chip (soon to be replaced with a Banks chip unless someone can prove me otherwise). Bye the way, the spelling is right on the chip. Reportedly a 130 Hp on position 3, 75 Hp on position 2 and stock in position 1. The truck had a 3 gauge A pillar pod that was pulled so I have not put the EGT, Boost or Trans temp gauges on yet. Will be doing that soon.

My question is, what will I need to replace (besides the chip) to make this truck tow a 3 horse trailer well? I have installed a goose-neck hitch and added a brake controller.

I plan on replacing the air in-take from the inner cooler (on the drivers side of the engine) in the next few weeks.

Any recommendations? Please let me know.

Thank you for your input...

J

i wouldnt go with banks id go with super chips or smarty. i know a couple of guys who have have used bank and they all taken then out and went to either sc or smarty. they said with banks they made lots of black smoke but not a whole bunch of power. with the super chips and smarty they make lots of power and not as much smoke (unless your having fun lol) just my opinion though. u did choose an awesome truck for the job though

I was using the truck on Sunday and the transmission was having a problem going up hill trying to pick 2nd or 3rd gear with the tow/haul on. I backed off the gas and it settled down. Then the water pump went. Maiden voyage pulling under 6 thousand pounds was not so good...

Ok. So that Van Aaken 3 position chip that was on the truck was causing error codes. The computer showed "Fail electric coolant fan" error. Problem is, it is a mechanical fan. No electric fan on the truck. I had the chip pulled and the error code cleared. So I am in a much better place now. Thanks for all the help.
