Default Bakflip F1 Doesn't Fit!

Received my Bakflip F1 for Rambox today, and went to install it tonight. With a few modifications I got all the mounting hardware installed. Then I went for the payoff the actual installation of the panels. Got it bolted in the front and the two middle latches DO NOT fit! They are an 1/8 inch wider than the brackets. I have the ability to remedy it, cut the brackets down and repaint them, but for $900 that seems a little ridiculous. I already had to cut the drain cups down to get them to work. Brackets are 48 5/16 inches apart and the latches are 48 7/16 inches wide.

Anyone have anything similar occur?

Starting to think this truck is cursed.
1st it shows up with $3800 worth of damage (dealer fixed).
2nd the electric tailgate lock comes with a revision of instruction that are impossible to use for wiring.
3rd discover the dealer flubbed the repaint of my door (part of issue 1) and is going to have to do it again.
4th the Bakflip I waited a week to get, doesn't fit.
Only had truck 3 weeks tomorrow.

Was the bed damaged when it came in or just the cab? The reason I ask is, if so when they fixed it they didn't make sure it was perfect.

No most of the damage was the front bumper. The box is fine, and it is true and square. It looks to me like Bak just attached the latches too far apart. Because not only is it too wide, but there should be some clearance, with a rubber hinge it is going to have some flex. So I would say it is 1/4" too wide.

I am going to call them up and see what they have to say today. I have the equipment to cleanly remove the 1/8" per side and then repaint them. But when you pay $900 for a cover shouldn't it fit? It was too late last night to tear it all back apart and start over.

The cause is poor quality control. I am in the motorcycle industry, run a dealership now and owned an accessory manufacturing company for 5 years. This is not the quality I would expect for something with this kind of price tag. I will post my full opinion after I get it finally installed and can really look it over.

I have the BakFlip installed on my current vehicle (GMC Canyon) and I can honestly say the product wasn't worth the cost. The cover works and all...it isn't the worst product out there, but I don't think it's worth the $900+ that I paid (that includes installation.)

I too found the workmanship to be less than perfect. The drain cups fit very snug, up against the truck fenders. Too much rubber for my liking that will eventually crack (where the panels fold.)

Customer service at BakFlip was not the greatest. If you search for one of my earlier posts, I commented on some problems I encountered with my cover when it was first installed. I contacted the owner of BakFlip and he wanted to send me out some replacement weather stripping, and to install it myself.

Save yourself the hassle and expense of installing any cover from BakFlip. They are a small-time operation trying to play with the big boys...IMHO.
That's my 2

Sorry to hear that and hope they take care of you quickly.

Once resolved, would love to see some additional pics and get your opinion of how useful it is with the RamBox.

I opened the box at 9 PM and at 11 PM I discovered the dealer closer issue. In the little bit I played with it, only touched the panels part for maybe 10 minutes before putting it back in the box. There seems to be very little custom engineered parts. The latch brackets are simple cut down angle aluminum, the mounts for the brackets are aluminum bar stock, with two holes drilled in them. They did have a captured nut in them that I hadn't seen before, but I bet I can find it, if I go looking. The drain cup hoses seem a little silly, but I have not given it the time to re-engineer it yet. The brackets for the prop rods are by far the worst part. They are a piece of aluminum that is hand sanded on disc sander, hand drilled, then has a wire tie down riveted to it to hold the rod. Does it do the job, absolutely! But I could have made it myself, and if I could have made it myself, then why in the world am I paying for this kit. I will look at the top some more tonight.
