Default Yellow Engine Light on After Jumping

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and a new Dodge owner, so I'm learning to navigate.

I just bought a '06 Ram w/ the 5.9L Cummins. No problems until yesterday: I left the key in the ignition (in "run") and drained the batteries.

I jumped the truck w/ no problems, but the yellow engine symbol light is now on.

Any ideas on what might have happened? Any help is appreciated.

Need to pull the code and take it from there.
You can get the code if you have a programmer or maybe you can take it to local auto store and have them pull the code for you. Could be a free service too.

Welcome to this RamforumZ from way down here in San Diego California

I am not sure about the Rams back then, but the newer ones will not charge themselves back up just by running the engine. The battery(s) on the new ones have to be re charged with a battery charger to get all the way back to full charge again, running it only gives it a surface charge, not a deep cycle charge.

Another thing that i read about, taking the connections off the battery for 10 or more minutes will reset the system usually. Take the cables off, clean the posts & cable connections, charge the battery using a battery charger, connect everything back up & the warning light should go out. If it doesn't, then its time to look elsewhere.

Good Luck

You can get your code (no explanation) by turning your key from off to run and back (IIRC) 5 times..
