Default 85 mm TB Gains?????

I have a Magnaflow 18" muffler and a K&N drop in. Would adding an 85MM TB have any significant impact on the performance of my truck? I do not have a programmer. I realize that a programmer would make a difference but I am going to wait until I read more good things than bad about the problems people are having with their programmers.

Personally I wouldn't mess with the TB yet until you have the "essential 3."

- CAI
- Exhaust
- Tune

With that said, a larger TB should still definitely improve the throttle response of the truck. I just sent mine in to http://www.thefastman.com/ThrottlebodiesHemi.asp to have the throttle body bored out. I'll post a thread about the gains I notice once it's back in the truck. If you are going with a brand new throttle body that is bored 85mm all the way through, just know that it wont match your intake manifold. To really notice the gains a larger throttle body can give it is best to port the manifold to the same size opening as the throttle body.

As far as programmers go, I have the diablosport predator and have no complaints.
- Better throttle response
- Crisp/firm gear shifts
- More power
- Check and clear codes
- Monitor and record live data

What bad things have you heard about the programmers? Have there been problems with them on the newer trucks? Like I said, I have no complaints about my programmer. There are many different options out there as for as programmers go.

Update: I did just learn that the intake manifold opening is over sized compared to the stock TB, at least in the generation 3s. Maybe you will see a lot more gains with a TB than I originally thought. A tune will still make it better

Thanks for the info. I'll PM you about the programmers.

Do you know how big it is? I've got an 85mm TB on the way & wondering if it'll need a port.

Since I have my TB off getting bored I just took a quick measurement. The opening into the manifold appears to be about 3.5 inches which is right at 88.9mm. This is for an 04.

Disclaimer: this is just a quick measurement done in my garage and may not be the exact factory specification for the opening of the intake manifold. With that said, I don't think you will have to port the manifold.
