No pissing match, just trying to get real information out there. I can only share what I have experienced first hand. This is my first build using a lockup TC, everything else has been stick or non-electric automatics. I had a 2600 RPM stall TC built for me that can handle 900 FT/LBS.

Oh I know you're not, I just didn't want you to think I was. I'm old school so I have to give you extra slack being that you're more up to date than me. Is the 2600 stall for the truck you have now, the one that wouldn't flash past 2200??

No, I had this one built for my current setup. I like a 2600 because this is my daily driver.

Custom, I have a shop close by that builds racing trans and TC and they built it for me. Billet stator, and bearing housing, tig welded fins, Alto Red Eagle lockup clutch.

Everyone had been posting that the 65rfe will use 2nd prime while upshifting in normal driving mode...

As simple as possible:

When in Drive - Shifts identically to a 545RFE

When in ERS - Uses 1,2, 2nd Prime, 3,4 and Overdrive.

When in Tow/Hall - Uses 1,2, 2nd Prime,3,4 and No overdrive.

Check out Allpar.com for a breakdown of it. Its basically marketing trickery until the 8 speed is released.

Not trying to beat a dead horse or argue but....what you are describing is a 545rfe.

545rfe: when in Tow/Hall - Uses 1,2, 2nd Prime,3,4 and No overdrive.

I don't know what ERS is so can't comment....

Every other source says that the 65rfe when in drive: 1,2,2p,3,4,5

I hate to say this, but prior to my tune my truck shifted into 5'th gear while in tow haul. It would say that it was in 5'th on the display so I know it was in 5'th. Now you've got me even more confused, lol!

Yeah but it's "5" as in 0.75:1 since the gears get rearranged......2p becomes 3, 3 becomes 4, and 4 becomes 5.

When in drive "5" is 0.67:1 and "4" is 0.75:1

The trouble is there is no 2nd prime indicator on the EVIC,
so when you use it the number on the dash is not reading the gear you are actually in when using ERS mode and 2nd prime (ERS=Electronic Range Selector).

if you use 2nd prime it gets mis-labled as "3" on your evic, 3rd is mislabled 4th, Then when your trans shifts to 4th gear the evic reads "5"

You loose your last OD gear until you shift out of ERS mode.

When I used a Bully Dog GT Tuner last year, the display would read all the gears correctly and had a 2 and a "2pr" shown when in 2nd prime.
