Default First tow

Well....I went and got my travel trailer out of storage. I have to admit that I hate towing but my wife won't let me get rid of the trailer. I was pleasantly surprised on how well it all went....aside from that yard being a mud pit. Love the 4x4 or the trailer AND my truck would still be there.

I know it's not a heavy trailer....it's just an 21' Ultra lite Okanagan (2900lbs) dry but should I be using the tow/haul button when I tow it.....Going on a 6000+kms (3700+ miles) trip this summer and curious.

....a pic for you pic hounds on here hahaha

yes and no on the tow button its made to turn ur overdrive off and u loose a gear witch will kill ur mileage so when on falt lands as far ass the eye can see id leave it off but in the hills turn it on .just for fyi the button also makes the pressure in the tranns higher so it shift a little rougher but nothing to worrie about

It really depends on conditions. I tow a 6x12 cargo trailer that weighs just a bit more than yours does when loaded. On hills or into a good head wind I have it in Tow/Haul mode. On fairly flat terrain I leave the Tow/Haul off, the cruise control on and she tows just fine. With the distance you're traveling I suspect you will run into both conditions. Good Luck

I'd leave it off. Listen to your truck..... if the tranny starts hunting for gears then tow/haul. The truck will let you know. Don't run it with the transmission hunting for the right gear, you'll burn it up. Personally I would think the truck will handle 2900lbs. with no problem.

If my minivan pulled it with relative ease....should be a breeze with this truck.....and to boot mileage should be better ....that minivan barely got 375kms on 100$ fill up when towing.

Well, Well, Well.....I AM NOT IMPRESSED!....or maybe need guidance. My wife went on a 440 miles road trip....pulling our trailer....2700lbs and with water and gear + water....about 3200lbs.....well...the truck averaged 25.4L/100 or 9.6miles/US gallon.....@ 60MPH she said she was on tow/haul all the way....THAT IS SOOOOO BAD!.....I don't think that she needed the tow/haul but I wasn't there...so it was safer....

My upcoming cross country road trip is gonna ruin me if this is actual mileage.....

Feedback please

Sounds low but again ambient and driving conditions tend to dictate mileage. How many hills? How steep of grades? What was the temperature? Running with or against the wind? How fast was she driving?

If it's flat, and no real hills to pull, then leave it in O/D. Tow haul is used when you feel the truck hunting for a gear and when you have some hills in your route.

Good luck!

Well you definitely don't need Tow/Haul most of the time for that weight, possibly in the hills but that's it. That is a good part of what is killing your mileage but even that sounds low.

sylster, how many km's on the truck? Your mileage will take a big jump after 15,000km's. My last truck jumped huge after 15k. I'm not quite there with the Ram yet but I'm getting close. Will report after the magic number.
