Default Cab Lights Help

I will install cab lights on my 2010 CTD soon. I have read many of the posts and watched the videos of the Recon products. I would really prefer actual Dodge lights. Can anyone get me the part #s including wiring harness stuff? Also interested in good persuasion as to why I should use Recon (or other brand) as well. Price is not a significant argument for aftermarket.... I am much more interested on possible design flaws of any product.
For those that have done an installation, what happens at the point of connecting the harness? Do the Recon lights require a cut and splice or are they plug and play with some sort of plug hiding in the A-pillar/headliner? Thanks folks!

I purchased the cab light (clearance) kit from Dodge parts to do my '01 . Came with everything . I would highly recommend it . It even told me how and where to plug the wire into the back of the fuse box . Check with Kurt at Mopar Online parts in our vendor area . I'm sure he can help ya out .

Stick with Dodge lights and harness (just tell the parts department you want the kit and you don't need to worry about part numbers).

My advice is to steer clear of the Recon cab lights, at least the black smoked ones. I bought a set for my 2007 Ram (truck was black) and while they looked great, after a couple of months I noticed one of them starting to get dim... then another. I called Recon about it and they sent me two new ones but tearing the inside of the truck apart again wasn't exactly what I wanted to do.

Anyway, almost all of the lights had moisture inside of them... now the lights were sealed tight to the roof with silicone so there wasn't anything more I could do, but the stupid design had the top lens sitting in a lip in the base - and it looked like water was working it's way into the light through this joint. I took one of the bad ones apart and everything inside was corroded.

Anyway, I installed the two new lights, put the interior back together - and not two months later lights were out again.

I tore the whole mess out of the truck, installed the stock Dodge lights, and never had another problem...

EXCELLENT replies guys. Exactly what i needed to hear. I have the Dodge parts coming and look forward to the ultimate installation. I also ordered the Uconnect electronics. No idea what to expect but hoping it will be a fun addition to the truck.

I'm pretty sure the lights for the 4th gens are clear, but they have the amber bulbs...

That's what I'd like but the Mopar ones I've seem look to be amber lenses. My truck is black and i think they would look better with clear lenses.

I'd call the part guys at your dealer and just tell them you want the clear ones... I see them on the trucks quite often.

OK.... so I bought the Dodge cab light kit for my 2010 2500 SLT CTD. The instructions have you drill a substantial hole in the center of each mount (and two small ones for the actual sheet metal screw mount) where the pre-made harness will pass through the roof. They make no mention of a wire grommet or sealing these holes! Dodge parts guy indicated that the holes stays wide open and the only seal is the gasket at te base of the light. He tells me that trucks with factory stock installs look like this. Can anyone confirm this? I would be super appreciative if anyone would consider removing a lens and taking a pic of the hole in question----looking for a factory stock pic here.

HIGHLANDCHEF----- the color of the lens is determined by the year of the truck (or so I am told by Dodge parts guys). The newer trucks come with clear lenses and yellor bulbs. My truck is black also and clear was a must.

What you describe is exactly what I found when I installed the Dodge lights on my truck... a BIG hole for the socket to fit down into and (of course the screw holes). I didn't worry about a grommet, but what I did do was add a nice bead of silicone around the base of the light before screwing them into place to make sure there was no leakage. I figured if/when I had to replace a bulb it was no big deal to clean the silicone off the light and the cab to reseal it. Personally, there's no way I'd NOT seal it up!

Let's see some pictures of the finished install!
