Default Oil preference?

Ready for my first oil change. Thinking of going full synthetic in my Hemi. Opinions? If standard oil, what make and reason? Thanks guys.

I would definately go with a full synthetic. I use Amsoil but a lot of people use Mobil 1...you can get it at Wal-Mart vs the online Amsoil site. 5W-20 or 0W-20 will work!

Default oil

The book says 5w 20,,,use that or your MDS will not work right all the time. Amsoil and Redline are the 2 true full synthetics,,,and are both more expensive. Castrol is a BP product. Mobil 1 and Valvoline are good synthetics. Ford motorcraft is also a choice,,it is made and bottled by Conoco. Just go on line and read.

What exactly makes Amsoil and Redline "true" synthetics? There are 3 grades of synthetics, I will agree grade 3 synthetics are ONLY considered synthetics in the US, because they are hydroginized mineral oil.

But there are MANY grade 4 and 5.

Grade 4s are PAO based.
Grade 5s are Ester based.
Then you have some that are PAO and Esters, some are dual ester, or dual PAO.

Just another tidbit to be a Synthetic Blend they have to be 30% Synthetic.

Been using Mobil 1 in all my rigs for a couple of years now and will continue to do so. I try to just use good old Fram filters and get the "better" (more expensive) ones there and Mobil 1 has been good to me. Noticeable difference in engine sound on my wife's CR-V and I just trust it. Maybe its just marketing and its in my head but if it gives me peace of mind, I'm ok with it. I change mine every 5-7k miles depending on the car, usually 7k on her Honda and it comes out practically new every time.

I'm going to go factory weight full synthetic but I've only got about 300 miles on my truck so far so I have a LONG way to go before I get much done. I'm going to change it at about 1500 miles and again at 3k, then go for a regular schedule after that.

It is what is used as a base to make the final product. Amsoil and Redline uses esters combinations to get the final synthetic oil. No impurities in the base, then no impurities in the final product. If you take lake water and filter it and add purifying items to it you get drinkable water even though it has a few parts of undesireable stuff in it, it will not hurt you. Now if you take hydrogen and oxygen and mix them 2 to 1 you get pure water with not even 1 contaminate. The latter cost more,,,same with redline and amsoil. It is a matter of choice. ME,,,I use Redline because I have another car that amsoil does not make the weight required.

I use Mobile1 with Walmart SuperTech filters model # ST2 if someone wants to try them. They are made in the USA and less then 3 bucks, the quality IMO is much better then Fram.

Used Mobil 1 Synthetic for the first time this past week and I don't know why but I can feel a difference in the way it drives... for the better.

Stick with the 5w-20 and go synthetic.

I use Amsoil and Wix filters in my vehicles.

How so on the quality difference? I am always up for a better product for cheaper but I'm just curious on how you can tell. Fram has always done me well and never fallen apart or anything but the down side is we don't have a wal-mart around within 2 hours so when I drive by, I need to make a list of things like filters and day to day stuff that I get. I usually go to Oregon and get Ammo tax-free and WAY cheaper than where I am locally. I'm in Eureka, CA and EVERYTHING is expensive here. Gas is still 4.19 for regular and thats a 10% ethanol mix. Others are even more.
