Default oil

How can you tell? For the most part you will get better gas mileage using synthetic oil.

I think I will just add on to this thread instead of making a new one. I am a couple thousand miles shy of my first oil change and to be honest.... I have never changed my own oil. I have always taken my car to Jiffy Lube or Wal-Mart for my oil changes.. I do not trust Wal-Mart with my new truck since I took my old car there one time to get new tires, then a few months later I took my car back for an oil change or something and they acted like I was so stupid for putting my lug nuts on backwards until I explained that they in fact put the lug nuts on last and I never looked at them since!

Anyway, I want to do it all my self now I think. Can someone do a simple How-To on changeing the oil in an '11 Ram w/Hemi? I know you just drain the old oil out and then poor the new in, but where is the oil filter and how often should I change the air filter? What else needs to be done during the oil change? I read in the owners manual that things need to be greased regularly too... What and how do I grease?

Default oil changes

I buy my own oil and filters and take it to the lube place and they do the labor for $20.00. Buy and change your air filters,,read the owners manual. It is a lot less expensive that way. You change oil and oil filter at the same time if you are gonna do it yourself but then you have the oil disposal problem which the lube place takes that on when they drain the oil. It is just easier that way and you make sure you get the oil you want.

If you want the best of the best use Royal Purple with Synerlec

and a Wix filter...

Nothing better IMO, probably get at least 6k out of an oil change with it. I just changed mine the "oil change message" just appeared at 3.6k miles so idk maybe wait or wait till the truck to tell you when to change it

I use Valvoline 5w-20 Syn (Walmart) and a Bosch filter (Autozone). For those that want to change their own oil most if not all auto parts stores will take your old oil for free. I drop mine off at Autozone, and the local landfill takes the filter for free as well.

I use Amsoil 5w-20 (0w-20 in the winter), K&N filter (the nut on the bottom makes it so easy to get off), and drop off the used oil at Autozone.

Default warranty

so im in the process of buying my first ram 1500........I like to do general maintance on my own car/truck.....however the sales guy at the dealer says I must take it to a warranty approved garage to have the oil changed while under warranty......I thought I could do it myself and keep the receipts....what is everyone being told about this?
