We were originally going to get the bench in the front but decided to go with the buckets instead. The laramie with the bench here in Ontario did not come with the heated steering wheel or the ventilated seats when I ordered so seeing as I my kids are starting to drive themselves now and I don't need the room we looked at the console and liked it, lots of storage and nice looking. I had a 2002 laramie with the bench and loved it too though. Would have went either way if all of the other options were the same. Figured that I was paying all that money for a truck and might as well have all of the goodies that I want. Just my 2 cents. Plus wife and I have been together for 20yrs and we just don't cuddle that much anymore lol.

I like the 40/20/40, I just wish it had a manual shifter on the floor mated to a good six speed transmission.

I grew up on a farm and of the many trucks we had, they all had benches. To have anything else made no sense as you couldn't afford to take up much needed passenger space with a fancy shmancy console. Things are different today and few trucks are used as trucks so style becomes more important than practicality.

Some of us though, still like the practicality. I bought a Dodge cause it gave me a bench seat, four doors, a 6 1/2 foot box and a strong V8 to haul with. It's practical, does what I need it to do and it's a hoot to drive. Some day I'd like to have a Laramie, once Dodge figures out how to put ventilated seats and a heated steering wheel in a truck with a bench seat.

I have been told that one advantage of the bench seats is when your passenger gets tired she can always lay down and "rest".

Amen! I grew up the same way, which is why I went as basic as I could. A truck is a truck for a reason, if I didn't need a truck to haul and tow, I would have bought a car. No sense in driving a truck in a city commute in my opinion just to have a truck.

Based on the opinions in this thread I suggest we start a poll on bench v.s. console and see where it goes ........

This is no different than so many other aspects of life. Look at your options, and then get what YOU want (and need and can afford), not what the other guy tells you is best (for him).

When I started my new Ram quest, I had three lists: stuff I definitely needed, stuff I didn't NEED but would be nice, and stuff I absolutely did NOT want. I had the bench in my old Ram, and DEFINITELY did NOT want the buckets/console for the same reasons others have spouted here. I also refused to pay for frivolous stuff like leather or stuff I would never use like a sunroof.

The first truck I looked at and drove was "it" - a Bighorn with a bench, cloth, etc. It was perfect.

Still, there was this blue Laramie calling out to me to come check it out. After just sitting in it, I was hooked and never turned back. It has all the stuff I didn't want, and I'm loving every one of those things. Go figure.

Give me buckets with a full console anyday. It looked better on 60's cars and it still looks better today. I get that some people need the option of the 40/20/40 split bench for the extra space. My new Ram is a manual transmission Laramie so of course you can only get it split bench. The manual was more important to me than the console, but otherwise I would want the buckets/floor console for sure.

Herc makes a good point. Get what you want and what you need. Why even debate which is better? For me, the center console is far from a waste of space. You know how much sh@! I can hide in that thing? Again, that's what I wanted and that's what I got. Me arguing why a center console is better is just a waste of time imho.
