Default Transfer Case Engages but no drive from Front Axle

Greetings,

I am looking for Ideas before I dump any cash into this problem. Please bear with me, as I am not familiar with the proper terminology for Dodge truck parts. I have always had Ford or Chevy trucks. I did try to search the forumz but kept getting Zero results, which makes me think I am not searching for the right key words.

I purchased this truck with the front drive shaft missing and a promise that the 4WD worked. After tracking down a drive shaft I installed it. When shifting into 4WD you can feel the Transfer Case Engaging but the front axle does not. If there are any indicator lights on the dash they also do not light up. Additionally my main tranny indicator does not work, P, R, N, D, 2, 1.

When the 4WD is engaged I cannot rotate the front drive shaft by hand. I can rotate it in 2WD. I suspect a vacuum leak, bad solenoid or bad axle shift motor / actuator, if that is what they are called.

Where does the system get its vacuum from? Is it up in the engine compartment somewhere?

Here are some pics of what I am looking at:

Any Ideas or suggestions to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I am sure I am not the first person with this problem and definitely not the last.

Vacuum does come from the engine comartment to a vacuum switch on the transfer case then to the actuator . There is a swich at the front axle also that lets the dash know it's in 4x4 .

The part you are taking pictures of is call the central axle disconnect or cad for short. Now here is how it works. Vacuum from the engine is plumbed to a vacuum switch on the transfer case. when you shift into 4wd the switch sends vacuum to the cad, the cad then locks the two piece passenger side front axle shaft together. If the from end is not engaging then the first place i would look is for a broken vacuum line in the system and check the system for vacuum.
