Default Spark plugs and wires?

My truck has 86,000 miles on it now and I'm considering doing a little tune up and cleaning the TB. The previous owner put 30,000 miles on it but didn't put spark plugs or wires. I know there's a truck load of different plugs but I've not been one for the "wonder" plugs out there. What have you all had the best luck with on the 5.9 engines. I do like NGK in everything else I've had. Do the larger 8mm wires really make any difference. Would you recomment replacing the dist. cab and rotor? The boys aren't racing this weekend so I hope to find a little time to do few things to my new truck. I've only had it a few weeks now. I've loved all the info on this site and plan to do some of the mods you all have talked about.

CHAMPION Plugs all the Way! Oh yea I think it is best to clean the TB every Air Filter Change. Be sure to clean the IAC (most important). Only replace the cap and rotor when it shows corrosion that cannot be filed off or when either the cap or rotor are cracked, melted, or show extreme signs of heavy use. Basically cap and rotor will only be changed once every 1 1/2 to 2 years. this figure is in general driving. But figure this you can buy a mopar tune up kit for what 60 bucks you get wireset rotor and cap. So either way!!!

I spent $6 each on a set of E-3's, don't bother. I wasn't impressed with them. Just get a set of decent copper core plugs.

We have the same truck and ive never changed my cap, rotor or wires since I bought it bout 4 yrs ago. Two weeks ago i go to change my plugs and to make a ;ong story short I gained alot of missing power cuz my #6 plug on cap was completley corroded along with the wire boot hehehe.

So change the cap and rotor cuz u cant go wrong with a little peace of mind..

i run autolite platinums had no problems at all as far as teh E3 goes to really get a better performance out of it u need to get 8mm or higher wiring and replace ur coil cuz the stock one will burn up quick. the E3 are really good for coil pack engines like the 03 and up

I don't think that there is a big difference from 7mm to 8mm but they do allow better spark. I would like to say I noticed a difference but I changed a lot of things at once. So I can't say for sure. I do know that if I run 8mm on my 390 stroker with my ignition setup on it it will burn the wires and coil up in a couple runs through the mud bog, so I have to run 10mm on it. It all has to do with resistance and the bigger the plug wire the less resistance which equals more power to the spark plug.
