Default Exhaust question?

Trying to decide between the Magnaflow cat back system or just the Magnaflow muffler. The stock dual exhaust is 409 grade stainless steel so I guess my question is this; Is there a difference in performance or sound between the cat back system and the muffler alone? Thanks guys.

I was going to go with the entire catback system but decided to replace the muffler instead. I would also recommend you replace the Y-pipe at the same time. I went with an 18" Magnaflow muffler and Y-pipe. Bought both off eBay for $100 total (including shipping). Gonna take 'em to the muffler shop next week to be installed. Below is a previous thread by 916Timmy that gave me the inspiration to take this route. He has pics and before/after videos that might help you decide.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say for the money (around $500 if you shop around)
The CatBack is the best option for sound, looks and performance. Comes with a Lifetime Warranty too.

If you have a Sport with duals and they are still like new, sell them for $200 and your net cost is only $300.

You can bolt it in yourself in less than an hour in your own driveway

The 22" Muffler sounds amazing, all SS construction and the rear section pipe is all mandrel bent SS that's 2.5" (not 2.25" like stock).

The rear resonators get eliminated for less weight and better flow without a worry about drone.

Finish it all of with a beautiful pair of HUGE 5" Double Walled Polished Tips.... INCLUDED!!!! For just $300?!?!?

No Contest!

There's a few more but I think that'll do.

I did the Magnaflow Y pipe too (Part 10778) for $27 welded in with Mandrel bent pipe
and My Ram's kick'n ass at the local Track..smokin off R/T's SRT8's, SRT10 Viper Truck QC's and imports like WRX STi's

I would also second what BlackRamHemi said above. **IF** you can find the all of those parts that cheap and do the install yourself, that is certainly the way to go. His setup is awesome and what I wanted to do (and hope to one day). I just could not find all of the parts for under $700 total (plus installation charges for the things I can't do) and just did not have that kind of extra cash at the time. Totally agree though that if you can get 'er done for $300 it would definitely be worth it.

with all the above. But will probably go with the 22" and Y pipe and my stock exhaust for $$$ reasons at this time.

Timmy got me to do the same thing, though I payed slightly more for the parts... I should probably start shopping smarter...

I cant post links due to the non-vendor rules here,
but if you search for the right threads there's info for at least two (maybe three) different sources to find the #16869 Magnaflow kit available for $500 shipping included anywhere in the U.S.

I know price is an issue for some, but I'd Gladly pay $500 and DIY
(and there's plenty of ST/SLT Ram's looking for a cheap single to dual swap on Craigslist Dying to get your new take-offs for $200)

Maybe I just have a thing against giving some Midas n00b $200 to weld in a $100 muffler,
squash bend some cheap tubing for the Y pipe... and still be stuck with factory reso's and little single walled bean tin tips...

really Dodge?....REALLY?
if you're going to pull your tips out of the Caliber parts bin,
at least make the bumper cut-outs 4" instead of almost 7" LOL!

Have you had any issues with the 5" tips hitting the bumper on rough roads or bumps? Gotta give you credit, those look fantastic on these trucks.

All the info is great, however if your really not going to race it then my opinion is what's the point. Mufflex makes a great system that sounds good and works, with a programmer that 2011 will be plenty fast enough and look and sound sharp. Just my .02

Nope, never a hit they are pretty darn solid in place with very little play (Stock hangers are very stiff)
...but if you're concerned you can adjust them further away easily...I first had them adjusted with about 1" clearance and tucked in a little further.

I thought after a while they would look better a little closer so I moved them up a 1/2" and out a little further
