Default truck won't start, but auto start works.

the truck will not start when trying to use the key, but the autostart works. when started with the auto start, as soon as i press the brake, the truck turns off. the interior lights are dim when the key is in the ignition in "run" position and the headlights nor break lights turn on. no fuses are blown, tested all of them.

is this a factory alarm that could have entered into safe mode? have no idea how to get it to start. the key is black, not grey. tried the 2 spare keys, that didn't work. disconnected the battery for 10 minutes to try to re-set.. that didn't work. any ideas?? anyone have this problem before??

Also, the fuse box under the hood - is that the only one? there isn't an interior fuse panel under the steering wheel or in the dash?

(take it easy on me boys, i AM a girl!)

Welcome to the Forumz!

Sorry to here about your starting issue. The dim lights are unusual, otherwise I'd say you have an issue with your ignition, that is, where the key slides in. If the auto-start works then you can rule out just about everything else in the ignition system.

Hopefully someone else will have had a similar issue and can help you better than I can. You can also search though the posts in the 3rd generation area of this site.

Good luck!

Hi and a warm Carolina welcome to the best RAM ForumZ on the web. How about posting a few photos of your truck?

I'm not sure what the answer is, but how old is the battery and does it have a good charge?.

Still no luck. It's not the key relay, we swapped those around already. Replaced ignition switch. Called the alarm company to see if maybe there was a safety on it that disables the truck to start. None of those options. I don't know what else to do.

It can't hurt to get the Battery checked out, load test after a FULL charge

Hey Guys/Girls,

I am posting to this because my wife ALICIA and I are still stumped with this issue...

Long story short we finally took it to the Dodge dealer and they made us take it out of there and bring it to an Auto Image to have the alarm taken out of the trucker cause they said they wouldn`t touch it with it...

Anyway when it went to auto Image they advised as I knew it had nothing to do with the alarm , but took it out..When I went to pick it up they actually put a switch so I can start and drive the truck back to the dealer...Needless to say I have`nt brought it back yet, and I am driving my brand to truck off a switch wired to the ignition... Could this be the ingition switch?

FYI: While installing a radio the fuse popped in the dash, so when I tried the ignition switch the first time it didn`t work...do you think I should get another ignition switch and try that?

I am getting power to the switch, but no power back out?

I look forward to all help and answers.
