Default How much will it tow

I have a 2010 Ram 1500 Quad Laramie and want to tow approx. 8000 lbs. is there anyone doing such and if so how does the truck tow it/ any recommendations? I just ordered Airlift 1000 airbags for the rear springs b/c the travel trailer I'm looking at has a hitch weight around 650 lbs.
Thanks

I regularly pull a trailer that ranges between 6500 and 7200 Lbs. I run a tongue weight of 500 - 800 Lbs. I have the Timbren SES suspension enhancement system.
Pulls great, average about 12MPG.

Here's a pic with the trailer at 7200lbs and about 800 on the tounge -

You have plenty of motor, and I would suggest a trailer brake controller, but otherwise with the airbags you should be good.

I agree, you will be able to tow it fine. Just don't load up the truck with a ton of stuff and definitely put those helper bags on.

Also, given that hitch weight, I'd go with a Class IV receiver and a anti-sway hitch link. I don't think you'll need a load leveling accessory back at the hitch with the bags being installed.

Yes, you will need weight distribution and some sway control. You are pretty close to the max specs from Dodge at 8,000 lbs with a 1500. Here is the link that you can match with your trucks specs: http://www.dodge.com/bodybuilder/201...ammlup1500.pdf

And the 8000 lbs, is that "dry" weight from the trailer manufacturer or loaded? I pull a 29 foot travel trailer that weighs 5300 lbs "dry", loaded with gear, propane etc, it is probably close to 6,300 - 7,000 lbs, and it is enough trailer for the truck, I wouldn't want anything much bigger, really to be comfortable for any hills or wind.

The travel trailer has a dry weight of 6850, i have a brake controller being installed and a AirLift 1000 airbag system for the rear springs. My calculations for max towing on a 1500 is about 7900lbs. So i figure I have aroud 1000 lbs of payload in the trailer/ truck bed.

How much do the stabilzer systems improve towability of most heavy trailers?

JJ, thats a great link. My truck is a 2010 and it has 3.92 gears so it says a 2011 will tow 9750, even conservatively I'm well below that and with 3.55 axle it shows a 8250 max tow. So as stated thats a great source of info.
Thanks
James

They make a huge difference. My cargo trailer only weights about 1/2 what you're pulling but I use a stabilizer on it. Everything is just that more solid particularly in less than ideal conditions.

With the 3.92 you will have no problem with that trailer, especially since that 8,000 will probably be your max weight, not "dry". Mine is 3.55 and it does well, but I wouldn't want any bigger trailer.

What trailer are you look at? Mine is a 2011 Kodiak 240KSSL.
