Default Big Red and owner are not happy today!!!

It's been a tough week for Big Red and Stump3r!

To top off a less than stellar sales trip I was on my way home through pouring rain, pop bottle bounce off the bumper leaving a hell of a scratch, 20 miles of gravel road behind a fuel truck that spit rocks and gave Red a few chips down to plastic, then to top it all off a gas spill mopped up with what looks like a pot scrubber!

For those who throw empty pop bottles in the bed of your pick up...please realize they can fly out in crosswinds and bounce off the grill of a Ram leaving a nice scratch damn near down to primer!!!

Coming home yesterday from a sales trip from hell I stopped at a full serve gas station with what I thought was a very polite, nice young man pumping fuel. So I tell the young lad to be careful topping up the fuel, when she clicks off round it to the next 10th of a cent and no more. This thing doesn't have much room for a full dollar round up. Then I told him if it does burp up on the side of the truck leave it alone and I will clean it up, whatever you do don't hit it with that damn oil rag in your pocket or those sand paper type paper towels! Guess what! Dumb dumb didn't listen and tried to stuff the tank way past full, then preceded to clean it up with sand paper!!!! Now the underside of the fuel door is full of swirl marks.
So I pay for my fuel unaware of what transpired on the side of the truck. I walk out the door and the kid comes over and apologizes for spilling fuel. I said no problem I can clean it up, happens to me every now and again. Then he tells me he cleaned it up and I cringe. Trying not to be snotty I said "didn't I ask you not to clean it up?" He replies..."yeah but I figured you wouldn't care cause it's dirty as hell and doesn't look like you take care of it!" I almost threw my coffee followed by my fist at this punk. I walk over to the side of my truck and there mixed with the muck of 20 miles of gravel road in the pouring rain is an attempt at cleaning fuel off the side of my truck. I could already see the swirl marks he made! Well the punk can clearly see he stuck his foot in his mouth mutters "sorry mister" and is off to wreck someone else's day. I head back in to chat with what I was hoping was the owner or manager working the till. No such luck got the typical "here is the owners phone number garbage". Well call the owner of the joint to find out he is on vacation. No justice!

Moral of the story...don't let anyone touch your Ram, even to fill her with fuel and never follow a fuel truck down a gravel road when it's raining so hard Noah is getting nervous!

Sorry for the rant but I had to tell someone that could sympathize! The wife just doesn't understand and the guys at work all drive Fords or Chev's! On the plus side of things I get to try some different wax and polish combinations

That really does suck, definitely understand your frustration and agree with the moral to your story. Sure hope you can get those marks out, though, let us know how it goes.

Scraps and chips happen, we can't avoid them, but when it's caused by something like a pop bottle flying out of another vehicle, that is just plain aggravating!

Here in Manitoba, if a pop bottle (or anything for that matter) flies out of another vehicle, and you get the license plate number and document the time and location, you can make a claim to have the scratch fixed professionally, and the other driver pays the deductible. That is one of the 'few' good things about the government insurance system.

I hear you on the fuel spill cleanup. I am at the point now, that if my station has an attendant that I don't recognize, or I'm at a different station, I will stand there and apply the necessary correction in real time. Had a few attendants give me the 'Look', and politely told them that after they saved their money for 30years and bought a $45,000 truck of their own, they can let all the gas attendants in the world scratch it up for them, but mine will stay nice and shiny.

You should be able to buff out the scratches at the filler, but the point is - 'Why is it necessary to expend the time, effort and cash because someone doesn't care enough to either ensure they don't scratch your vehicle, or at the very least, listen to instructions'.

Hope you get this cleaned up to your satisfaction. I know this scenario really puts me in a 'less than friendly' state of mind.

I definately agree here! I cannot tell you how many times someone has tried to get into my truck with muddy boots at work, or my wife has brushed against it with her purse, or any of these things...

Then the ol' price tag addage comes out. I didnt pay 40k for my truck, but somebody sure did. I am just smart, bought it when it was a year old and paid ALOT less.

Regardless of the price, the addage still applies. Its your money, and your truck, so its YOUR rules.

I probably would have killed him. No one touches my Ram or my Harley. On one of my many rides to NJ where it is state law that you don't pump your own gas the guy starts walking over as I was getting off the bike. I just looked at him and he turned around and walked away. I stay far way from full service. And when I have to have my truck or bike worked on I stand right there and watch everything that is done.

Well good news somewhat, I have the swirl marks taken care of but a few scratches remain. I started another thread in the washing and waxing section for some tips with Meguiars Ultimate Compound.

It's night and day from where it was but I want her as close to perfect as I can get. Big Red only deserves the best!
