Default Ram Outdoorsman - wheels and Price

I have a 2006 Ram 1500 with 4.7 and am looking at the 2011 Outdoorsman. To me a clean and simple look. I don't need the chrome and glitter; I prefer the quiet look.

Why do they put 20" wheels on a vehicle not really outfitted for looks. I understand that young guys like big wheels, but what advantage are they? I would prefer the standard 17" wheels.

The reason is I just found one I like but they put the 20" wheels on. Also, what is a good price? It has the std outdoorsman package and a few goodies to bring it up to 41,340. Price on dealers website is 32,973. Is this a real price or a come-on?

it has been very common for people on this board to be getting 10k or more off of the sticker price.

Thanks. Would like any thoughts on wheel size, don't really much care just interested in what is advantage or is it just a size thing that some like?

Advantage, better handling since you have less sidewall.
That's the only one i can find.

But i don't like the stock 17''. They're not wide enough at 7''. I can't put bigger tire on them, so i need to buy new wheel. So went the time come, i'll be selling my stock 17'' for 17x9 aftermarket wheel.

I've driven both the 20" and the 17" on the same truck. I like the 17" better since it rides smoother and sucks up the bumps better.

Default Appreciative

Thanks guys, I thought I may have to do more than just change wheel size. I'll get the dealer to put the 17's on. I'm not racing the truck and at my age prefer a smooth ride. I've had my fast rides and handling with a Porsche Carrera when I was young and dumb. Fun ride, outrageoulsy expensive and rather a piece of shit. Ate tires like no tomorrow an they were EXPENSIVE.

Now I want comfort and ease of use.

Appreciate the information.

I'm sure the dealer would gladly swap the 20s for 17s on the lot. If not, find some aftermarket 17s or 18s and sell your 20s on the forum. Every couple of months someone posts a thread looking for the stock 20s in the buy/sell section.

My 2011 Ram was my first truck with 20' Rims, It is not too bad, I personally like it, but the 17' rims feels more comfortable in the road bumps (more tire side wall). Just to let you know a get 10.000,00 of the sticker price on my truck last February. 39.999.00 bought it for 29.900,00 good deal for a Lone Star Trim loaded (no leather).

Good luck with the purchase. I have 18's on my truck with a lot of sidewall. Even though it's lifted, it's not harsh at all.

I don't think 20's are much more than a trend, much like steelie 15's were in the 60's...

I like the 17" vs the 20" they handle better and you gain a few more lbs useful load.
My dad 20" on his Larime and it rides different for the worse than the 17" IMHO!
