Default Magnaflow will lower mpgs?

Recently went to a local exhaust shop to price swapping out my stock muffler with a SI/SO magnaflow. The guy called his supplier who told him that a magnaflow on a hemi would cause a loss in mileage due to a decrease in backpressurem which the hemi "requires". Naturally he recommended a flowmaster for $80 more. Naturally I said thanks just the same and just had my resonator removed at another shop. So, I'm feeling BS but what do you veteran hemi ram owners say?

BS!!! All you gotta make sure of is that you don't go to too large of a muffler (inlet and outlet sizes) where you should stay at 3" inlet, 2.75" outlet.

If you go a single in/dual outlet muffler (like I did) then keep the outlets and tailpipes at 2.5".

His supplier just wants to sell his Flowmasters.

If you go to a Flowmaster or Magnaflow or any other freer flowing muffler, you'll want the resonator on.

I call BS on that statement as well, the only way you will lose mpg's is when you keep your foot in it to hear the awesome sound!

while they do like SOME back pressure, they don't require a lot....I myself believe loud pipes save lives, so I went with 3" SI/SO Cherry Bomb Extreme...being a ST I don't have the cool EVIC like the "upper class" Rams have lol, like Michael and BLK said, I have major issues out of my right foot as well

that is soo funny, again, people who don't know anything about our trucks trying to tell us what we should and shouldn't with them... like others have said...as long as you don't go too big you should be fine...scavenging and exhaust pulses are the key..too open and the pulses won't 'pull' the exhaust out of the motor efficiently...that's why I don't really push going true duals unless you have a built motor. I myself went the true duals, sort of, by dualling all the way to the muffler...but instead of the si/do that almost everyone does, I chose to flip it the other way and do dual in/single out...

Yeah, I've seen the pics of yours. Along the lines of the gm HDs(1000 apologies). Seeing as I've already removed the resonator and replaced with a 4.5" resonator tip and actually like the sound it gives out for my application(let's face it, mega cabs aren't hot rods) my concern is going to be the possible restriction the stock muffler has. Got the vararam, going for the dsp. I'm down to the 22" mag or the big gibson SI/SO muffler. I like the heavy duty look of a single pipe on a big ass truck... ?

I call it BS as well. Although I do have a Flowmaster 40 I believe that any comparable muffler that allows the HEMI to breath better will have a positive effect on you MPGs. Mine increased for sure with the new Flowmaster, no doubt about it. Oh and it sounds amazing as well.

If you pay an EXTRA 80 dollars to step DOWN to a Flowmaster.....I don't know what to tell you!!!! That is like trading in your Hemi Sport for a Dakota...and your payment goes up 80 bucks a month!
