Question Y-pipe and exhaust warranty

Stopped by the muffler shop (local guy, not a chain) today to schedule a time to put on a new Y-pipe and 18" muffler (both Magnaflow). He said the muffler was no problem but he thought changing the Y-pipe would likely void the warranty on my exhaust system and that if anything ever happened to the converters, it may not be covered. He mentioned something about this being a federal 8-yr/80,000 mile warranty and not a Dodge thing. So, before I have him get started, I thought I ask the good folks on this forum for input on the subject. Just curious as to whether this is true or if I am covered by the Magnuson-Moss Act.

He's got his facts mixed up just a bit here.

The federal warranty is an emissions warranty. So that covers your emissions control components. The Y-pipe is a mechanical design element to connect one side of the motor to the other for a single outlet exhaust.

The Magnusson-Moss Act doesn't "cover" anybody, it just basically says you have rights. It would have to be determined that the y-pipe change out messed up the converters. Seeing how the Y-pipe is designed to "pass gas" and it goes to the converters, nothing has changed within the operating parameters of the exhaust system.

I'm calling BS on this one.

The dealer doesn't care as long as you don't mess with the cats...after the cats is fair game. Just don't expect them to replace the Y or anything after that.

I'll be pulling my cats out when I get my LT's....truck is now registered in AR, but I'm stationed in UT....granted I'm sure things have changed in the last 15 years since I've lived in Crossett, but last time I had work done (15 years ago lol) the local shops didn't care...but with things are how they are these days, I don't know who to go to back home anymore. PCSing to Cali in a couple months, but as long as I keep my AR plates I should be fine with my illegal exhaust lol

As long as you are active military, you can keep your own states plates & abide by that states rules

as long as you abide by the noise ( decibel level ) laws for vehicles in the state that you are stationed in, no will will bother with it

lol well I was born in Bastrop....lived on the wrong side of 133 so I fell in the Hamburg school district...but we had a Crossett address....so I'm sure the combo of the 3 doesn't help me any lol

As far as serving....it's been one hell of a trip, seen many places that I'll never forget, with just as many that I don't want to remember....5 more years and I can start fishing/hunting again!!
