Default rear differential question

i have a 95 ram 4x4 with the 5.2 and i believe 3.55 gearing and open rear diff. i am sick of getting stuck in everything because of this one wheel spin crap, my friends truck came with a factory limited slip in his ram. could i just find the same rear end as hes got and put it in my truck so ill have limited slip? or would it be cheaper and easier to buy a kit and put it in? also, how would i determine if a truck has a limited slip differential in it or not? what would the stamp on the differential say if it were a limited slip so i know what to look for in junk yards? thanks!

there is a way to tell by lifting the axle off the ground and spinning one wheel and if the opposite wheel spins in the opposite direction it means something, but I can't remember what....someone else will know....I think it means its open diff....

You could get a limited slip for about 300-500 bucks, then install it. I looked at the setup for mine and it was about 1400 for a true-trac, new gear ratio and install!

Well if you have only one wheel spinning then that means it's isn't Limited Slip, what LSD is Posi-Traction. Anyways it's cheaper to buy a Posi-Trac Differential and put it in but be sure when you do gear oil changes that you use LSD additive, and put the additive in before the gear oil. Anyways if you have the chrysler 9.25 which you probably do because of the year and axle ratio then you can just buy a LSD off ebay. just search "chrysler 9.25 posi" and you will show something to affirm this the truck has a chrylser 9.25 you can request a build sheet (if you give me your vin I can get you one within 24HRs, or you can look under the hood for a vehicle sticker that has info such as the axle ratio, torque converter, transmission etc.

Just remove the differential and put the ring gear from the old one on the new one and install the new differential then put the additive in and then the gear oil. And boom you have posi trac. Over time you will have to replace the clutch pack on the differential. Their is another guy on ebay with on for 89 bucks I think but it needs new clutches. But hey it would be cheaper to rebuild it then to buy a new one. Anyways have fun, good luck. Any questions I'm here to help.

ya i know i have a 3.55 gear ratio with a open diff. so would it be easier and cheaper to buy the lsd kit off ebay and just put it in my rear end? or go find a whole rear end at a junk yard and swap the whole thing?
would i need the ring pinion gears off ebay or the whole lsd thing thats 300 bucks or so?
