Shouldn't be any reason to change the coils unless they are bad. Follow the owners manual, it has recommended maintenance schedule.

Yeah, if one of your coils needed replacing you would have either a CEL on or your truck would be running like crap. Plus, they are $25 each. I would change the plugs, check your air filter and all your fluids of course and that's about all you can do. I would recommend you clean the throttle body while you have everything off if you want to. I just did mine about two weeks ago and it's super easy. Unplug two sensors (TPS and IACV), remove three bolts from TB, then move it around a little so you can see how to unhook the two throttle cables (they come loose easily with no tools, you just have to take your time and look at how to move them the right way). Once you have it off, take the screws out and remove the TPS and IACV. The IACV has a rubber seal holding it in so it might be hard to get out and back in but if you twist it, it will go. Pick up a can of TB/carb cleaner at the parts place and go to town with an old rag and maybe a toothbrush if you have one. You can soak the TB down once you have the two sensors out of it. Just don't use anything abrasive like a wire brush.

What plugs you going with? I went back with NGK V-power copper and they are great. Less than $2 each too I think.

I'd also stick with oem plugs, wires, etc...

What do they come with from the factory? Champion I think? That's what was in mine. They still looked pretty good but I don't know how many miles were on them. I don't know if it's true or not but I have read that the 4.7s are a little picky about plugs. I would stick with OEM or something that someone else has already tried (NGK seems to be the next most popular and myself and many others on here know they work well too). I don't see the point in switching to a platimum or iridium plug when they are so easy to get to on our trucks.

Yeah ^^ I have run fancy shmancy expensive plugs of all sorts on other vehicles, and believe I lost fuel economy and performance, and obviously money. I also had some general running issues with some of them, the truck I had wouldn't idle well and would sputter sometimes. I switched back to stock type plugs and ran normal again.
