Wow talk about mechanical advantage! lol. I was planning on either 4.10 or 4.56 with my 32.5" tires for the street, and ~28" tires on the track, and I thought that was tall gearing!

I rarely go over 70 on the city highway so my setup is to enjoy hole shots up to 70.
I may revert down to 4.56's when i upgrade my stall though. See how it goes.

But 4.56's would be a excellent choice though for the OP.

Your current setup puts you in overdrive through the traps doesn't it? Isn't this hard on the overdrive gears? I am hesitant on 4.56 because it will almost put me in overdrive at the end of the track with 28" tires. Although I could always go with bigger tires to combat this...

it would be close but doable. Forget it when i put in my 3400 stall so going down to 4.56's would be my option for that.

It be interesting how your scenario goes but is there a couple of 4G members who are upgrading to 4.56's and testing it out at the track? Give you a good idea on what to do per their times and how they are crossing the traps.

What times are you running, and what else do you have done to the truck?

I know there are a few others (blackramhemi I believe is one of them) that have 4th gens but he is 4x4 and has 3.55 I think. There also aren't many racing the 4.7L, so I should be able to squeeze a few more rpm's out of my truck, but if you're turning 7k then you got me beat, I wasn't planning on going past 6,000-6,500 rpm just due to the fact that I don't want to take the risk with my daily driver that I need to last. I think blackramhemi just ordered a 2,800 stall converter and I'm looking forward to seeing how it works out for him, I'll probably get the same one. I was looking at another 2,400 stall but with the smaller engine and less low end it would benefit me to get the higher stall. Do you know of any gear sizes between 4.10 and 4.56 that may be out there for the 9.25" rear end? If I can't find anything I'll probably end up with the 4.56 as I can adjust tire size if need be... thanks.

I am not a good example as i only been to the track once and that was low 15's but that was a while ago and it was my first time.
Will try again once i figure out how i can pass tech with shaved handles.

Also our trucks are different as i have a 3rd gen 5.7 so the mod available is widely different between us. However you are prob a better driver than me so you could still kick me ass LOL.

lol, well I'm definitely not a great driver, I don't spend near enough time on the track to be, but now that I have a fastish vehicle I'd like to start going every few weeks. My average reaction time when I used to run my ford in high school every few weeks was getting down to near 0.25 second, now that I haven't ran down the track in several years I'm back up to where I started probably at 0.5 - 1 second as I'm out of practice. Knowing the vehicle well helps alot too. I'd like to see low 14's with the gear change and converter, not sure if I'll achieve that though with a 5,000lb quad cab powered by a 287. I need to go do a baseline stock, then with my superchips and then with the intake to see where I come up, I'd like to track how much each mod helps so I can post up for others, then I can do with the gears and converter the same way.

Oh and me adding 100lb step bars and 100lb trailer hitch isn't helping, lol! I gotta keep telling myself "it's a daily driver" lol, I keep wanting to go all out with it but my wife kindly reminds me that I'm making payments on it haha. She's always cringed everytime I made a pass down the track, and the vehicles I've had weren't even that fast lol. I have convinced her that drag racing is pretty much the safest form of racing there is, how hard is it to drive in a straight line with only 300-400hp lol. I'd like to get my truck to be quick, where a little money goes a long way, then once it gets to be in the realm of being expensive to drop a few tenths and start losing reliability I'll call it quits and just have some fun on the weekends...

I notice so far all the talk negatively about the gear swap involves RPMs in 5th gear of AOD transmissions. What about those with the six speed manual?
