Default Hell Bent Steel screwed me! - RESOLVED!

1st this is NOT a HBS bashing, but yes im pissed because Hell Bent Steel screwed up. I'm normally an observer on the forum because i have not modded my truck yet and would rather post important or helpful things than clutter the site. The wife and I originally agreed that I would not do anything to the truck for the first year of ownership because we may trade up in year three...never the less i cheated. anyways i decided to go with HBS 2.5" leveling kit due to a 3 inch difference on my BigHorn.

I ordered my stuff over the phone on wednesday, and the folks at HBS were awesome, got tracking number that night and it said the parts were coming saturday. no biggie! when i checked on thursday usps delivery changed to friday...whoa...nice! so i triple checked on friday morning, usps said out for delivery...hott damn we are in buisness. i decided to get a 6 pack, yes it was still morning...put the truck on stands, pull the tires and start tearing down so no time would be wasted. i got both struts out in an hour or so.

well the parts came right on time, and they look good and fit as they should...but wait the install instructions read "In march of 2008 Dodge made a change to the strut of the Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 strut cap. Dodge decided to omit a 1/8 inch plate that was there in the erlier modeles. If your truck was manufactured after 2008 you should have recieved plates with your kit.

Wait nobody mentioned this before, i never heard this on the forums...Oh damn THEY didnt send them, i call Hell Bent Steel to make sure i need them and they said yes you need them, if you drive with out them you will destroy the bushing in the top hat of the strut.

okay so they will ship the plates out to me maybe i will get the parts by tuesday...until then the truck is down. HBS didnt forget that kool decal but im sending it back to them. now my truck will down for a few days to an oversite!

moral is you should look out for the plates if you, also these plates that are 1/8th in inch adds a little more height to the stack. this to should be considered also. and start the job until you have done a complete inventory...

yes I agree that they should have sent the required equipment in the first place. But this is prime example of why when modding to not start modding process until part is in hand, to prevent things like this from happening. If your truck breaks down and you have to take it apart to determine problems thats different. but just to mod it I would have waited till the part came. Just my 2 cents

HBS should have mentioned the plate when you ordered the kit! As far as trying to get a head start..lesson learned

I wouldn't be too hard on HBS. We're all human. I would only be mad if they were trying to make it look like it was your fault, or if they weren't doing something to rectify the situation immediately. I make lots of mistakes in life. It's how you handle them that determines character.

Well as bad as it sucks, HBS has the directions on their website with the link right on the page that you ordered them from. I have read them before and don't even have a 3rd gen 1500. You will also see this:
NOTICE:
It is the responsibility of the customer or the mechanic to wear safety
glasses at all times when working with air tools.
BEFORE BEGINNING, Please read all of the instructions
carefully.
Before installation begins, drive the vehicle and inspect it
to make sure that there are not any uncommon sounds or frame

damage.

I do hope everything works out for you

It is right in the instructions to not install the kit without the plates, and if the plates didn't come with your kit to contact them and request them.

I read through the instructions several times before they even shipped my kit

Default hbs

ya i had a little bump with getting the wrong level kit sent to me and apparently i hit the wrong button on the year/model screen. so i had to ship parcel back from ontario and paid quite a bit for shipping and they sent back the proper package for my 2010 dodge 4x4 but they did not send it as a return so i was dinged customs fees for the second time lol! i was pissed! i am putting a lift on in a couple weeks so it will be for sale as i dont need it now lol!

i didnt yell, curse or anything at the folks at HBS because i was a little over zealous to take things apart ahead of time. but i had my reasons...in any case when you pay for a service and /or a product, you expect to get exactly what is paid for. if HBS did this quite often this would cost them good and there would be some disatified buyers alike.

oh well such is life in the fast lane.
