Default Tire relation to Speedometer

So I just recently upgraded my tires to the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Pro Grade. I love the tires so far and look awesome on the truck. However my truck stock calls for tire size 245 75 R16. I bumped up the size to 265 75 R16. I know the speedometer will be off now because of this. But how much will it be off and in will my speedometer show me going faster or slower than I am. And how can I remedy this problem. Or is it just something I now have to just deal with and watch the speedometer and compensate the difference to make sure I dont get pulled over lol

I went to Discount Tires, when upgraded my tires on the 1999 chevy 1500
they have a chart on their computer, mine was going to be 3 MPH off
also if you have a speedometer shop near you, sometimes they can change the little gear that the speedo cable threads onto at the tranny end
Some speedo shops have a electronic hand held device that adjust the computer in your truck, i would think Dodge dealers could also do it electronically

the new tires are taller. when they were off the truck I did a side by side comparison and the 265's were 2 inches taller than the 245's

I'll have to do some math as the sidewall number is a % of the width. So...

Stock tire width is 9.645669 inches.

New tire width is 10.433070 inches.

Stock tire thickness is 7.234251 inches.

New tire thickness is 7.824803 inches.

Stock tire diameter is 30.46850 inches.

New tire diameter is 31.64960 inches.

So, when your speedometer indicates 60 MPH you would actually be traveling

62.32588 MPH

You can go to 1010tires.com's tire calculator and enter the tire sizes and it will tell you the percentage difference. I can tell you a 31" diameter to 35" its a 10% difference from stock. 30 mph is really 33, 50 is 55

The dodge dealers can hook up there hand held and adjust your sizing for you. Takes 2 minutes of time and mine doesnt charge for this, but I also am fairly friendly with them.

I leave the speedo in viecles that we end up going slower in, but if you end up going faster its beter to change it so you dont get haslted

had an awesome experience with a dealerships service department today, I called a couple tire stores to see what they would charge to recalibrate the speedometer and i got quotes between 25-50 dollars to do it. So just on a hunch I go to a local dealership and talk to the service manager and he tells me theres no reason to have to pay for something that takes him 2 minutes to do on a handheld computer. He hooked it to the truck put changed the setting for the speedometer and it was done. All I had to do was figure out the revolutions per mile of the new tire size. Good thing cell phones have calculators on them LOL But the dealership was Fields Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Northbrook IL on tower road right off HWY 41. Very good experience.
